i have been saving a bundle of fat quaters for a special quilt i saw one time. one block was a 4 patch, then the next block was a 4 patch on point. sooo is there a secret to figuring out what size to cut the 4 patch on point blocks? and then the filler pieces around them? sorry for being soooo dumb. but please someone smarter than me, help me out here.

No quilter-to- be is dumb. You have courage and the creation gene to want to try quilting. It is not easy sometimes but you learn as y ou go and although I don't know the pattern you need help with, keep asking, someone will help you. Good luck!

I think it's square in a square.I can't think of what size you need.

since you came up with the name, sq in a sq. maybe i can research it. usually i just take junk material and figure it out. thx.I think maybe the 4 patch was like 2.5 inch blocks sewn together, or maybe 3" sq's sewn together. then the alternating block was a sq in a sq. done in a whimsical floral pattern. i got the bundle, without a pattern. cause i just loved the material. and then was in n.c. at a quilt store, and was watching a lady do long arm quilting, and she had this material made up into the pattern i'm thinking of.

I found my pattern. For a 6 3/4 square you need to cut a block 5 3/4 then cut this block diagonally twice, you do need one square 5 ".I hope this is what you need.
