I Googled 'Mariner's Compass quilt' and 'New York Beauty quilt' and found a lot of free patterns. Here is simple one, but there are no directions so it wouldn't work for me as I've never paper pieced.

http://www.quiltsmart.com/khxc/index...arinerscompass I have this kit for a mariner's compass but I haven't tried it. I think it will make it a lot easier to do though.

Hi,

thanks everyone for your help! Everyone is so nice here! One member has some books, so now just have to decide which one will work the best for me. I have some really beautiful pics of mariner's stars, so I think I am ready to try it.
Nothing ventured - nothing gained. Thanks again.

Kathy

I would like to find a pattern for the Mariner's star/ Mariner's Compass. Can anyone help me with that?
Thanks.

Go to Jinny Beyer's website. She has tons and tons of these as freebies. You can download the Moonglow quilt pattern free also. That pattern has 13 Mariner's Compass blocks.

Quiltsmart has fusible interfacing for the Mariner's Compass.

Brenda Hennings has a book with multiple mariner compass patterns as well as full quilt patterns. Peggy Martin has a Craftsy video that contains a "Sailor's Delight" pattern that's very nice. Both of these women use paper piecing to make the pattern. I am currently making one by Brenda Hennings but found that the one by Peggy Martin was easier for me to do, especially due to the video and great directions. Good luck finding one that you like and can do.

If you are very comfortable with paper piecing, Judy Neimeyer has a fabulous Mariner's Compass quilt pattern. I believe her website is quiltworx.com I love her patterns and thorough instructions.

I have just finished and taught classes on the Mariner's Compass. Try Quiltsmart! It is done on a fusible grid, it's easy and all the points come out perfect. You can also watch how it's done on You Tube.
