I think I would just use soft brown fabrics to make blocks around the panel (if you want it to be larger) and mix in just a few desert camo fabrics, then use the rest of the camo on the back. I'm afraid that adding color to this panel would just ruin it, and it's pretty as it is.

I would leave the panel as it is. Parents want what they want. If you brighten it up they may not use it.

I would color in Bambi and the outside.

I wonder about using colors on a quilt that will be washed a lot. I didn't have the best luck with a piece I used colors on. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I like the deer just how he is and would not add color to it. You will find if you use colored blocks and borders that the neutral color of the panel will look lovely.

You could get a grey camo, and use different shades of grey for blocks around the border. I really like the soft greys and wouldn't add other colors into.

I might just give coloring a try, not on the panel but on some scraps. With just a little highlighting, you could make the deer stand out more without changing the colorway. They like subtle and camo. I definitely would not be adding circus colors, even if that was what I wanted LOL. Grab a box of crayons, google and give it a try.

I also like Tartan's suggestions.

I like this idea.

That paleness is right in line with the modern look today. Maybe add soft pastels around the edges in pinwheels or some other simple design. Go for elegant, as silly as that sounds for Bambi.

I recently purchased this panel to make a quilt for my daughter's friend who wants a Bambi and camo theme for her baby to be born later this year.
http://www.joann.com/nursery-fabric-...panels&start=8 It is so pale and colorless. I plan to cut it up and just use the center deer, adding blocks and borders. My issue is with the deer itself. How do you think I could add color to it? I thought about fabric paint or fabric markers but have never used either of them. It's not easy finding Bambi themed fabric. I found a couple on ebay but wasn't really impressed. I would greatly appreciate any ideas. Thanks. Here is the second quilt top going to a fund-raising auction.
