Depends on the effect you want. #4 becomes a medallion with everything revolving around the central star, making it the clear focus of the design.
In #2 the star becomes a square with four pillars in the corners. #1 is a combo of those with a ring around the pillars, and #3 and #5 are balanced but with no major focal point. With all four of those, the eye keeps moving around. They are all good, but I think #4 grabs attention and presents a much more united image than the others. My 2¢ only. ;) |

They are all good, but I would vote for #4 because I think it sets the star off better.

Oh, and the purple and black deal on the left is one of the pieced things I found in my bargain basket from the yard sale. It won't be going into this quilt.

I like number 6 - actually I like them all, but 6 if I have to pick one! Very pretty colours - lovely designs.
