Carol - great directions, thank you! I'll have to bookmark this if I can remember how.

Kathryn - yes, I saw that and commented, it's absolutely beautiful!

For an easy pattern, google "bog coat". You can make them any weight and use any fabrics.

I introduced my mother to them and she crazy quilted them for awhile. It was easier for her to do than a whole quilt. She did not use all those fancy stitches. She just stuck with one stitch and one color of thread through out the project she was working on. It is one way to use up all your scraps.

The best sweatshirt idea I have seen was on this Board several years ago. It is still out there at http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...et-t58056.html . I started one, but never finished it.

I made one a few years ago in gorgeous fabric with various stitching patterns from my sewing machine for decoration. Don't recall the pattern. It was gorgeous, but I looked like a sofa in the Lazy Boy commercials in it. And I'm not that big. I cut it apart and made throw pillows. I would love to see a pattern that isn't so bulky and shapeless.

:) :D I made one several years ago. I wanted that jacket like crazy. It's pretty and I hate it. Never wear it. I need to donate it. One of the problems is it is too short. I should have made it longer. I made a bag to go with it and I have used that quite a lot.
This is the pattern I used. I noticed on their website that they have other patterns I might have liked better but I just don't have it in me to do another one.

Wow, sparkys-mom, that jacket and bag are stunning. Just think, "Short is the style now." and wear it. It is beautiful.

Nancy zeimer has had a woman on demonstrating these and shows many unique ways to close the front. Search for Nancy's notions and go from there.

I made one to wear to the quilt show in VA and it was so hot that I eventually put it in my bag. I have never worn it again.

Oh my! It sounds like a number of you don't like your sweatshirt jackets. What a shame because they are so beautiful on the hanger. I have fabrics for two of them but may be rethinking this now. Although, I think it might be perfect for wearing outside in the between seasons, Fall and early Spring. Hmmmm, may have to give this some more thought.
