I don't buy much fabric now days. Mostly wide backings and buy them at Hobby Lobby. At my walmart you have to ask at electronics to get fabric cut.
There are often some lady there but I never need to buy then. |
I overheard the owner of a lqs tell one of the employees no more fabric sales after the first of year.

I also bought fabric at walmart of course even from fabric stores you have to watch the quality they
I do buy from Hancocks of paducha on line always happy with price and quality I do buy when on sale I also buy from Jordans and always the sale price good quality |
I am going to be downsizing my stash soon. Most of my fabric is quilt shop quality fabric like moda, hoffman, RJR, etc. How much would you be willing to pay per yard of unused clean fabric? Just wanting to get some ideas of what to ask. I will be advertising as a quilter's sale or something like that. I really want to get more than $5 a grocery bag!

Sewingpup -- a local guild had a fabric sale as a fund raiser with donated fabrics. Almost everything sold. Their prices were novelty fabrics for $5/yard and blenders/solids for $3/yard. They bundled scraps together in a gallon bag and got about $10 for a gallon-sized bag.

I bought some yardage from Fat Quarter Shop and The Green Fairy that were Moda fabric and they were as thin as some from Joann fabric. Seems like the higher the price these days doesn’t necessarily mean better quality IMHO.

It's not just JoAnn's, the fabric is getting thinner in the quilt stores also. I went to my local quilt store last week and was shocked at how much the prices have gone up. The quality of the name brand fabric has gone down. I did buy some, took it home, washed it and it shrank in length by almost two inches.

thanks, Dunster and Ibex94. that is in the range I was thinking. I tried looking online and it seems to be all other the place. Ranging from $1 to $10 or more. Didn't think either extreme seems like a good idea.

i had that problem several years ago. after multiple requests for help, waiting over a half hour for someone to cut fabric, i cut my own, brought the cut piece and the bolt to the regiser. then the front end folks went nuts! i wasn't supposed to do that! they were very busy at the time - no excuse for ignoring me if fabric dept - and finally decided to check me out at the register. Then the clerk asked why I wasn't taking the bolt. I told her I didn't buy the bolt, just the 2 yard piece she checked out.
This is always a problem at walmart, so I don't fabric shop there nearly as much as i used to. |
