Definitely a place like JoAnn's or another fabric shop where they are having a sale. She can go either online or to the store and sign up for their mailing list. JoAnn's usually has at least 1 50% off coupon in their monthly fliers and definitely 40%. Sometimes, at least in our local paper, there is an insert from there with coupons in it. Also, maybe she can check a place like Goodwill or Salvation Army.

Even check online for deals - just compare shipping vs. buying locally.

Perhaps she could put a cutting mat on her list for birthday or Christmas. It could even be an early gift.

the rotary cutter will cut the glass...I have a chip in my glass top to prove it when I accidentally went off my matt...Quilting is an expensive hobby, so she should bear that in mind....also, whatever matt she gets, will outlive the cost and being well spent....I got an awesome one at walmart for $35 a few years ago...

I agree with you cause I used to do that 1 time and that glass dull my blade. that's not worth though..

I have two from walmart that I have been using for several years and they still work just fine!

The first cutting mat I bought was a self healing cutting mat for....drafting I think...it was in the arts supply store. Not sure if that would be cheaper, but sometimes if you think outside the box or look in different areas of a store. I think they have
pretty inexpensive cutting mats at Pat Catan's...again in the art section.

Why would any one want to use glass for a cutting board? It will not only dull the blade, but it could cause harm to the person cutting. Granted, cutting mats and rotary cutters can be expensive, but there are many options out there. She doesn't have to get the most expensive mat or the largest mat.
