Have fun at your Mystery Class - I love making mystery quilts. They always challenge my color sense. I would cut my pieces as specified. It could save you lots of problems later.

Took me an hout just to pick my fabric. I am not totally happy with the background, wish I had gone with a yellow instead. Hope I like it at the end though. No more money or time to buy more.

Do not be afraid - your cut will be as accurate as always! Do not fear measuring to fractions. And remember, if you cut bigger, eventually you will have to cut it back to 8 3/8 so you are just giving yourself twice the work without improving the output.
GOOD LUCK! Most of all, have some fun with it!
Good luck!

Yes but it is SMALL line and hard to see on my omni-grid ruler! I do cut the measurement called for but I really like cutting fabric on the BIG lines!!!! Also my favorate ruler does not have 1/8" marks! I still would not recommend cutting bigger since you do not know how this block will fit into the whole quilt pattern.
