This is one I just started for my husband. The grey is from one of his shirts. There's no set pattern... it's just a scrap quilt, freeform, making it up as I go...

applique...horses, black bears, deer, moose, etc. ;-)

I hate to sound like a broken record, but Storm at Sea would be a perfect quilt for a man. Since it's usually done in blues or greens and the pattern isn't "flowery," it makes a great guy quilt.

I've always thought that the Antique Tile pattern in "guy" colours would make a great man's quilt - it's all squares and goes super fast if you strip-piece the smaller units!

I agree with the others it is more the fabric than the pattern that will make it a manly quilt. Does he like sports , have a favorite team ?

my son loves his black, white, and red log cabin.

I made my husband a log cabin with every ugly fabric I had and it turned out really cool. I made my oldest son a basketweave pattern with browns and golds that turned out really nice.

I would ask for his favorite colors, and if he has an aversion to fabrics with florals in it. There are so many geometric prints, animals, sports etc... that you could customize the fabrics to his interests. My DB's and son would not appreciate florals in their quilts
