I am not a quilt judge but have seen this word in judging... the design has to flow and move your eye across the quilt (or down in this case). In my opinion, your quilt has flow simply because it's a layer cake! It takes all kinds of referees and umpires and quilting judges, and they do not always make the right call. That said, please tell us about your technique. It looks like the layers might have trapunto. Are the candies real or printed on fabric? It is all around a yummy of a quilt! Blue ribbon for sure.

This type of thing is why after decades of sewing and crafting I never got into quilting until recently. Too much rigid thinking and tradition. All that tradition is lovely but there needs to be room for us more contemporary thinkers as well. Everything doesn't have to be perfectly on point to make an interesting design IMHO.

Some of the quilts shown on the board are wonderful!

It didn't flow??? Where in the world were THEY looking??? It flows perfectly. So glad you had a wonderful place to "flow" it to.

Am I hearing you correctly? The quilt was accepted in the fair but didn't win a ribbon but came back with the judge's comments that it didn't flow?

Our local fair judges try to give 'supposedly constructive criticism' to help us do better next time. Not sure if that's what your judges were trying and if that's it - like the others have said - they need glasses. And besides, rivers flow who knew quilts were supposed to 'flow'.
