I know Patrice will come up with her own pattern for the Jelly Rolls she's just ordered, but for those of use who can get mystified about what to do with them, I found that the www.fatquartershop.com has a lot of patterns for Jelly Rolls.
I really like some of the names, like Strip Poker and Strip Tease. |
i'm going to use them just as i'd use any other fabric in any type quilt. each strip adds up to just under or just over a yard and a half. as long as i don't need pieces bigger than 6" in any direction, i'm set for any quilt that needs up to that much of whichever particular fabric.
most quilts use either 2.5" or 3.5" patches. that adds up to 6", so i can probably use each strip at least twice. |
I'm such a newbie...I had to go to ebay just so I could see what the heck a jelly roll is!!! But now, thanks to y'all I know I'm alive cause I learned something new today!! We always made our own rolls like that...but for braided rugs not quilting...I can see how they would be handy...but I'm very anti paying for something I can do for free. Thanks for the lesson folks!!! You are all so very much appreciated!! I'm biding my time on the frugal front...I have a heads up on a garage sale this Friday with "tons of yarn and fabric". I'd like to say I wish I could bring y'all with me...but hey I'm not as quick as I use to be and I don't need that much competition

Now, just how will I know which one of you ladies is bidding against me?
I sent Lori a link so she could see that she is appreciated, and for September 2007 she is offering us a nice discount. Here is her reply: ***** I deleted my e-mail address****** I just wanted to let you know that all my fabrics are 1st's. They are not mill ends or 2nd.'s. I have found a new mill and supplier. I have hundreds of yards still to list, most name brands. The only reason that some of my fabrics are 24 to 30 in.'s is that I can't manage the full width, so I have them cut in half so that I can work with them. Most of the time, full bolts from the mill are just to heavy and big to work with. I want to thank you and everyone else on the quilting board. If anyone from the quilting board purchases fabric from me this month, I will give them an additional 5% off any and all material. Including sale items. There is only 1 thing that they have to do to get the discount. They HAVE to let me know they are from the quilting board or else, I won't know to give them the DISCOUNT !!!!!! They can let me know through Ebay or by email [email protected] Thanks, Lorri |
it wont' be me, i can assure you. i'm too impatient and disorganized to jump into the bidding. if the "buy it now" price is good, i'm in. otherwise i just window shop. the kinds of things i'd be willing to bid on are things i couldn't afford if i won.

moonpi, I too had sent Lorri an email, I had to laugh when I read your message! Isn't she awesome to give us a discount? :D
|
jbsstrawberry, just to let you know that the fabric strips we are talking about from Lorri are strips that are 6 inches wide by 21 - 27 Feet long and the price comes out to $2-$3 a yard. Right now she is having a sale on some of her fabrics and is adding an additional 5% discount on top of the sale prices for us, here on the board. (read moonpies posting)

amma, is that your kitty or did you just kitnap the picture? it's adorable!
|
It was kitnapped, LOL I thought it was so darned cute! Where I live I cannot have animals so this is my cyber pet, :D It also reminded me of those cute little fur balls on Star Trek years ago, Tribbles????? I think they were called.
|
But the trouble with tribbles was their speed of multiplication.
Another post from Lorri- I sent her a link to join, but I forget where I originally signed up. ................... Thank you so much for posting on th quilting board for me. I also wanted to ask you if you would let them know that they don't have to bid, everything is at buy - it - now prices. |

Whenever I'm cutting out fabric for my rag quilts or whatever, I always cut the leftovers into 2, 2.5, and 3 inch strips. Then I roll them up and use red rubber bands for 2in. , blue for 2.5 and etc. that way I always have binding strips cut or strips for making nine patches or whatever comes along.
I also cut 5.5 in squares to have on hand , as that is the size I usually use for my rag quilts. |
Deb, What a great system!!
