Eleanor Burns has two books that would be considered samplers...Underground Railroad and Egg Money Quilts.

"victory quilts" is another one of her books, she was on tv this morning. i think the sampler quilt blocks are from the 40's.

i think she has the clearest instructions in her books!

There are several sampler books on the market, but here are some from Eleanor Burns. "Egg Money Quilts" is 30's, "Victory Quilts" is 40's. " Pioneer Sampler" and "Underground Railroad" are 1800's. Her books are well written, easy to follow the directions and some history as well.

She is one of my favorites. I like others too, but in my opinion, her books are the easiest to use.

And like someone said the Marcia Hohn's Quilters Cache is a great place to get free patterns. Also a great place to look for ideas and gives you an idea of how hard or easy a block will be before splurging on a book.
