Oh my! It's lovely just as it is but if you want to put a border on it then I would suggest a 2"wide black border to ancor it all. It really is pretty.
Much like all have said: I would do three borders - the first a black - medium width - the second a scrap of stings - very skinny - then a final border of wide black. Of course it depends on the final size you want.
It is gorgeous....so vivid and alive! I did a crazy quilt top with all those bright colors...I used a dark printed 3" finished border all around, then a 1 1/2" wide x 6" finish border of many of the colors in the quilt blocks and am going to finish it with the same dark print binding.
Your quilt blocks are gorgeous! I prefer the solid black but whatever you do, it will be great!
I would use a black border and on the binding use all the colors used. Sew all the fabrics together in strips and then cut at 45 degrees at whatever width you like your binding to be. Beautiful quilt!
I would use black.
I think a black border so it does not take away from the quilt
I don't think it needs a border--it's absolutely gorgeous as is, and a border might just be distracting.
Great Quilt! How about using prairie points using the beautiful colors in your quilt.
It's going to very bright and beautiful. I would stick with a solid color for the border. Just my opinion.
Gooooorgeous! If it was me, Iwould go for the black border, as your jewel tones would really pop. If this quilt needs to visit someone, it can come to my place....hee hee hee!
Awesome job! |
I think just a black border would look very nice.
a black border would show off your beautiful blocks
I like a black frame. But it will be beautiful however you do it.
Whatever you decide, it will be gorgeous!
Hi, love your quilt and what is the name of your avatiar quilt pattern?
I agree it should be a thin border, followed by either a wider black border with black binding or ending it with the thin strip. To do anything else would truly rob the quilt of its beauty and you have done a beautiful job on this. Inspiration for my next string quilt for sure. I did a random one but love your same-color idea; just beautiful!!
I'd use a fairly narrow black border and binding, but with little tiny blocks of color scattered randomly, say a cluster of them at every place where you would be piecing the border fabric.

Beautiful colors!!! Maybe use a small black border
with a black binding. That would just frame those beautiful colors and not take away from them. |
How about a black on black tonal fabric as your stopper or border? If you wanted to add a colored border you could with a back stopper.
Thank you!
Looks great, black border will bring you eyes to the center, love all the colors!!

Should I just add a black border and keep it simple or I was thinking of taking the strings and going around the top to follow the color wheel or does anyone have a different option? If I were feeling frisky with this quilt, I would put two back borders with strings in the middle. I am doing that for a string block silk tie quilt. I use doodle paper & it is 11" so I cut 3" off and use that for the border. I'm hoping it looks as delicious as your quilt! Judi I'm including the quilt with the borders I am most proud of. My friend is S. African and travels a lot. She was at my house when this set of fabrics came and she LOVED them. So she recently had gotten remarried and I wanted something special, so this was it. When I got to the borders I had 1 yd of the focal fabric and little left of the border fabric. So I fussy cut the focal and attached the borders with that. I love how it turned out. I felt so creative!!! I love these borders |
I really like Feline Fanatics idea (on the 1st page). The quilt is beautiful and will be wonderful whatever you do.
That is fabulous! A black border would really set it off I think.
How about a 2" black border then piano keys border from all the fabrics and black.
You make such beautiful quilts and this is fantastic. Great use of color, nice work!
First off, it's a beautiful quilt! I would put a narrow black border to give the eye someplace to rest, then use one or two of the colors you used in the quilt.
Looking forward to seeing it when it's done. |
Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love it. I think a black simple border would be the best to be a counterpoint to all the beautiful colors. Nice work!!

Myself, I would add a narrow black strip, narrow color strip and then a wider black. That would really make the center stand out. When adding the narrow color strip, you could even use a different color on each side.
Love it!
Black sounds good to me :o)
I'd stick with the black. Lovely, lovely quilt!
Your carpet looks like the ideal border.Having plain black might be a bit too harsh for the dancing colours but breaking the black up with a small spot would be ideal. In actual fact, the carpet looks like a very dark, steel grey and that is why it looks good - because it doesn't dominate or compete with the centre.
Wow what pattern is this?

Beautiful quilt & I would just use a black border so you don't take away from the blocks.
Your quilt is stunning! Love how you made the squares come alive. They look 3-D. The planning must have been mind boggling. Are your black stripes one inch finished or cut one inch? Is the black plain or a print? I am seriously considering making this to use up my stash. How big is your finished quilt?
IMHO- Cut a narrow border of the stripes, in random order (as in quilt), and put a wider black border on either side of it? Same for binding stripes?
I looked at this and immediately thought - black border with a bright binding
