I bought my Husquavarna (sp?), Sapphire 870, about two years ago for around $2000. It must have been a moment of madness, spending all that money. Oh well.
It's a nice machine, lots of bells and whistles, and a large throat area for quilting. BUT, there isn't a lever to raise the sewing foot. You have to tap the foot pedal. Drives me crazy! I'm forever reaching back there to lift the foot. And, I don't use it for piecing because I find it so hard to line up the fabric with the needle. Boo hoo. As I said, a moment of madness and now I'm paying for it. Serves me right. |
Never priced one, good luck.

I gave 3200 for my bernina 440 QE a year ago. It had stitch
regulator and walking foot and I bought the 1/4 inch foot. It had one but I wanted the one with the raised side. |
do you think the 440 QE is better than the 630 E, I am not sure which one to get

"Better"? Not in terms of quality, the upper end Berninas are the highest quality machines in terms of build. There are more features on the 630 than the 440 and the interface is different. Many who have purchased a 440 go on to trade in on a 630. I have the 630 and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I have written a review of my machine and it is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/athomesewing/2720227176/ If money were no object, I would buy the new 820! Even then I don't think I could give up my 630! |
I would go for the 820 if money were no object but.........., thanks for the help

If you have multiple vendors in your area find out from each what their "BEST price (no BS please)" is. A good dealer will work with you. I generally don't haggle, but I have negotiated on each of my machines. Some dealers were not willing to deal and I told them that I could not do business with them. For the last machine, I had to drive a bit - but it was worth it.
