I have noting to add to the cat odor discussion but I wanted to add when you test the thread, and if it breaks, remove one full layer and then test the thread strength again. Dust mites are what cause the thread to weaken and I have found that just removing the outermost layer leaves me with a good useable spool of thread. You might even remove the smoke odor by doing that. Good Luck!

So if I had that thread, I'd probably put it in a strainer sitting over a bowl of PDZ, with some plastic wrap over the top for a night. Although, it shouldn't take over night to do the trick.

Where do you get the Sweet PDZ? I have 3 cats and would really like to know!! also, how much do you use?

I get it at Tractor Supply Company [TSC]
It was $10 for a 25lb bag, and I add a 1/4 cup to the scoopable litter twice a week after scooping. I even gave some away, and I have a lot left. In October, it will be a year, and I have more than 2/3 of a bag left. Butt, I only have one cat.

That makes sense to me , to remove a layer of the thread. I did not know that dust mites are what weaken the thread.....

Crumbled newspaper and time. Hubby's cap, from DGS, was in a house fire and smelled. DD put it in a box with crumbled newspaper and put it away for ages. Got rid of the smell.
