With all the symptoms of yourself that you described???? Yup you are a quilter! Congrats & welcome!

I call you a quilter! I have two sisters who I call quilters but they both have different names for themselves. The one in Vermont calls her self a topper and the one in Illinois calls herself a piecer. Both of them send their quilts to a long armer. That's why they make so many quilts to my so few! I call myself a quilter but actually my Bernina does all the work! I am just the hand that rocks the cradle!

"I am not sure when you can consider yourself a quilter. Maybe when it becomes a obsession!!! LOL. I am sorry maybe I should have said an addiction no that's not the right word either. Oh! I know when the fabric's starts talking to you, no that's paranoia. HUM!! I think I need counseling. LOL.
Now stop being afraid of that quilt and get busy so you can tell others you are a quilter."

There is an addition to this obsession, addiction, paranoia and it is insomnia. When the quilting overtakes your sleep and you start dreamning, it awakens you (if not awake sleep walk) to go to the machine and start sewing. OMG it has overtaken my mind, i need a holiday, hmmm a quilting retreat sounds good. LOL.

Are you thinking about quilting when you are... doing the dishes, watching TV, working, driving, shopping... you wake up at 6 in the morning and go to your sewing room instead of trying to go back to sleep. You also love, fabrics, notions, patterns, rulers, threads and.... you are hooked to the quilting board!!! If more than one applies to you, I vote that you are a quilter!

I fully agree, quilters we unite.

I love fabrics, notions, patterns, everything related to quilting. My mom was a life-long quilter and in the past few years I have had a 'longing' to be a quilter.
I've made three quilt tops and have quilt fabric, kits, patterns out the wazoo(sp?) but I've never thought of myself as a quilter because I haven't completed a quilt. I am scared to death to make that sandwich and start quilting - either machine or hand.
So...can I call myself a quilter or am I just a wanna-be chicken?

Technically, I think you may be a quilter when you sew those sandwiches together(no matter what design). Up until then, you are probably a 'piecer'. (Mind you, I was a 'piecer' for 3 years for fear of 'ruining' the tops). A friend of mine got me involved in quilting some sandwiches for charity - she had more than 500 donated to her to quilt. After I helped her with half of them, I don't worry any more. I got better with every quilt and thank my clever friend. Be brave and surprise yourself!

Yes, you are a quilter. Also do not be too hard on yourself putting the sandwhich together. Maybe tie one and with another one use a walking foot and stitch in the ditch. Step by step. It was very empowering for me to actually finnish my first quilt. I quilted it by stitching in the ditch with a walking foot. My daughter still sleeps under that quilt every night and has never complainted that one of her other sisters has gorgeous feathers quilted on it.

Went to WM today to pic up my perscriptions. Had to wait for one. Decided to brouse in the fabrics while they still have them. Didn't plan to buy anything cause I'm leaving Sat. on a nine day bus tour to Chicago and want to have some spending money.

The gals had been unloading a new shipment since Monday. "Look at all those black and whites. Just what I've been looking for. That leaf pattern is just what I want for my stack and whack. In green AND red? Can't resist. Oh, there's that super shade of tourquoise I've been looking for and I've still got the swath in my bag for matching. Yep! That's it." I went home $ 76.00 poorer but fabric richer. Oh, the perscription? That was $10.00. Am I a quilter? You'd better believe it! (In my best John Wayne imitation)

A quilter on her way when she is ready.

I've only done a few quilts, but grew up with my mom quilting so I feel like I'm a quilter and I inherited mine. So anything having to do with quilts and piecing fabric together should be considered quilting and yes you are a Quilter....
