Your colors are absolutely wonderful. Great job, however you decide to finish it.

Babs194068 02-28-2011 02:39 PM

Very pretty love your colors

DonnaB 02-28-2011 02:41 PM

Beautiful topper, that's how I'd leave it, so it will be displayed in full on a table.

bbeyes 02-28-2011 03:57 PM

Thank you so much anxious to try this.

Ceil 02-28-2011 04:15 PM

Beautiful colors and so perfect! I'd finish it for where it would be visible most often. Reminds me of raspberries!

Nettie Phillips 02-28-2011 05:25 PM

Oh, breath taking.

doowopddbop 02-28-2011 05:51 PM

I have seen this mostly envelope finished rather than with a binding. I think it would make a great tree skirt too... :)

donnalynett 02-28-2011 05:52 PM

Wow! It is so perfect and I love it.

cdufur 02-28-2011 05:55 PM

This is really pretty. It got me to thinking that maybe I'll try one.

Gorgeous, Gorgeous Color Choices. I don't know what to tell you either, but it is so gorgeous. Hope that helps.

Very pretty, like the colors. draw on a piece of paper the distant from corner to corner, then down each side and add your seam allowance. Good luck.

Those are FABULOUS colors!!!

Jingle 02-28-2011 06:32 PM

Gorgeous, I love the colors and think it would make a gorgeous quilt.

You might want to mount it to make hanging easier. That's how I did a circular quilt.

cr12cats 02-28-2011 07:43 PM

ndgirl 02-28-2011 09:00 PM

Very pretty. I've never made one but it looks like something I'd like to try some day!

Quiltaddict 02-28-2011 10:44 PM

Normally I don't care for pink, but your quilt is absolutely beautiful. I think it would make a wonderful quilt.

katigirl 03-01-2011 12:24 AM

Either way it sure is fantastic and eyecatching. What beautiful colors.

auntiehenno 03-01-2011 07:34 AM

I LOVE your color choices. Beautiful!

janRN 03-01-2011 09:56 AM

Thank you all again-I'm humbled by all your compliments. I am so insecure about posting my work.
Many have commented on the fabric. I have never worked with pink (most of my work is very dark) and rarely use florals unless they're black. This fabric line is April Cornell from Joann Fabrics. I fell in love with them, bought them, and then couldn't figure out what to do with them. I think they worked well and I can't wait to check out her new line.
Thanks again everyone.

1: if I decide to make it into a quilt, how do I determine the size of the "inset" blocks in the corners? Do I measure and add seam allowances or is there another way?

2. if I decide to keep it a table topper, can I sandwich top, batting, and backing then sew and turn it right side out? I really don't want to add binding as it would detract from the stripes.

Thanks so much for your help!

Jan, I've made sev. of these but out here (west coast) they are called New Orleans Puzzle. I do all of mine pillowcase style which is the way you describe which lets you turn it inside out. It's easy to sharpen the points. Then I press that edge to sharpen it. Then I do SID on every seam. That gets tedious but you get around it eventually.
I love your colors.

laalaaquilter 03-01-2011 05:45 PM

The ones I've seen bound have binding that matches the outer border of each point. Don't know how they did it but it looked great.

sewgarden 03-02-2011 12:52 AM

that is gorgeous

Eileen 03-02-2011 05:53 PM

That's beautiful. I think that I would sandwich it inside out & turn it back & do some quilting on it. I agree that binding would detract from the stripes. But I would put it on a wall to be seen every day.

TexasBlueBonnet 03-03-2011 09:36 AM

It is beautiful and the color you choose are wonderful.

Mousie 03-17-2011 03:08 PM

oh my goodness, is that gorgeous or what??????
I think I'm in love! :XD:

janRN 03-17-2011 06:05 PM

Thank you, Mousie. I decided to make it into a wall hanging. I just need a nice day when I'm not working so I can work outside and get the "frame" made for it and it's going up in my dining room.
You guys have really given my confidenc a boost-thank you.

geraldine 07-06-2012 06:21 PM

Use straight pins to secure to wall they will hold (no nail holes to cover up)

mjthompson 03-03-2014 01:40 PM

MOMMOMJOANN: Could you tell me the place where you bought the star spin kit. Do you know if they would ship it? I have the pattern but have decided kit would be easier than buying all the necessary fabric.

Dina 03-03-2014 01:54 PM

I think making it into a wall hanging is the perfect answer!! And Geraldine's suggestion of using straight pins might work really well. I have used them for several of my wall hangings. Beautiful topper/wall hanging!! You have got to be proud of this!!
