YOu might try what they suggest for tupperware containers and that is to put some newspaper in it and close it. Hope this helps.

I must be weird, I like that plastic-ey smell! But I also like the smell of petrol (gas), nail polish remover, spray paint.
Not that I go around sniffing these things, but they don't bother me at all.  |
OMG Mary, you and I are exact opposites I can't bear any of those smells, they make me physically sick!! Last year I bought a couple of pairs of very pretty slippers that were remarkably cheap....BOY did they give off fumes, after washing and airing for several days I ended up throwing them away as the smell when they warmed up on your feet was AWFUL!! Not so much of a bargain afterall

Wow boy did yall get my number. I thought I was the only one who liked those smells gas, fingernail polish, I dated a guy who owned a auto body shop and loved to smell that paint and bondo all those lovely smells. I love to smell test papers when I was in school to. I do know that a funeral director told me one time when a mouse died in my walls of the apt I lived in that if you put cotton balls soaked in Vanilla and put towel under the door and leave the cotton balls in the bathroom the order of the mouse would be absorbed in the vanilla cotton.

I use pure vanilla, real or imitation to get rid of smells in plastic. I soak a paper towel in vanilla, wipe down the inside of my coolers and close the lid with the towel inside. When I open them up after fall-winter they smell vanilla fresh! Same with thermos's, water jugs, anything plastic :D

If that doesn't work you could try denture cleaning tablets. It cleans the toilet and the sink and the coffee pot. They turn out minty fresh and CLEAN!!! I suppose you can go as far as straight mouthwash too.

Who knows which "cure" has helped the most, but after the vanilla soak I left it outside for another 24 hours & it's now in my sewing room, and although there is still a faint smell , it's not over powering. Thanks for all the suggestions. It wasn't just a regular plastic smell, it stunk kind of like that skunk smell, you can't get away from it fast enough. To be honest, it's not a great bobbin holder, the soft circle one I have holds the bobbins perfectly so if you knock it off the desk, they all stay in. This oval one they just sit in it but when you go to take a bobbin out the next bobbin lays on it's side...too bad...
