watch out for jelly rolls. at full price (i've seen shops charge $35) the per-yard cost is approximately $14 before shipping.
charm packs are waaaaaay pricey, too. they don't all have as many as 40 squares per pack. at 40 squares, average price around $8 (have seen them for $10 or more) ... $15 or more per yard before shipping. if you can catch them on super-sale, though, they're a good way to see all the fabs in a line in person before you start investing in real yardage. i must adminth, though, that i've been buying charm packs for my Stickle quilt to achieve greater variety. i buy only what i can find on super-sale. i still cringe at the per-yard cost but 1/4-yard cuts of that many fabs would end up costing me tons more. |
check out the Missouri Star Quilt Co. They have lots of them....

Dakotamaid you don't know it, but are my new best friend. I purchased a June Taylor ruler almost a yr ago. It is has been gathering dust in the closet.
I have been frustrated with irregular cuts. Thank you so much for posting that link. |
Although the cost of a jelly roll can be pricey, if you were to by a 1/4 or even 1/8 yard of 40 different fabrics, it may end up costing you more to get as much variety. Are there ever any swaps for strips? I haven't even looked, but it would be a good way to get a variety of prints.
