After years of volunteering with Salvation Army, I would give it to St. Vinnie's. Salvation Army will not give it away, and the 'employees' always got first pick for free. Always disgusted me. They also charge for coffee in disaster zones, too. No one else charges. Call your nearest church, and ask them to find it a new home with someone to use, to make money for the bills. Pay it forward.

In his effort to improve my quota of sewing machines, my husband over bought several machines from ST Vinnie's. Once I picked what I wanted to keep, I fixed up, oiled and lubed several machines and then gave them back to St. Vinnie's for resale with a note that they definitely worked.

Random act of kindness. Angels on you for your kindness, Gary

I gave a perfectly good Morse machine to our local Salvation Army Women's shelter. (I know it was dumb to get rid of it but it was soooo heavy and I bought a Kenmore that was lighter). They were excited to get it.

Oh, and one more suggestion - check with your church. Someone there might just love to have it. I always check with our deacons first to see if there is a need before I look elsewhere.

If you have freecycle in your area, it is a great way to get rid of a sewing machine. The recipient might not be able to afford a machine and you might be the giver of a wonderful gift.
