I didn’t get to spend any time in my sewing room yesterday but I did go out to the stables in 18 degree weather to brush down and love on a couple of horses. I will finish hand sewing a binding on my Long Time Gone quilt today.

ahhh.....mutual love it sounds like.

I haven't achieved as much as I hoped I would. I have however completed a good number of 9 patches for the batik 2/1/2" strip quilt I am making from the 2 1/2" strips I got in a guild swap. I have the center of the quilt put together and cut the first 6 1/2" borders and working on the double row of 9 patches that will surround that border. The plan is to keep working on this one over the next several weeks and be ready by the next VQW to get it finished. I am still searching the the UFO of my goddaughter's quilt that I have somewhere misplaced. This continues to be one of the most difficult quilts for me. The top is done and ready for quilting it is the back that is giving me the problem.. There is always something to be doing on our Virtual Weekends.

Conchalea 02-16-2020 02:30 PM

I completed the binding on my red & pink quilt!. I'm excited about that. It took this VQW to inspire me to get it finished. That will probably be the last major project before I move in less than 7 weeks.

I finally got some time quilting. This weekend has been bananas!

I pressed seams on a project Linus quilt and then started my very first personal attempt at a quilt. Everything I have done up until now has been for Project Linus using donated materials to our group.

I cut strips and pieces for sashing and got all rows pieced and rows pressed.

I have the same username on Instagram where I post pics. I was having upload trouble from my phone to this site, so will have to try from my Chromebook later.

Very pretty! I love it!

quiltingshorttimer 02-16-2020 04:56 PM

thank you all for posting pictures (you obviously are smarter than I am cause I can't seem to accomplish that since the updated site). I really did need to see some pretty quilts--besides finding out that our DGS's adoption was delayed on Friday, I pulled a muscle in my back helping load stuff into the truck to take to my son's family; and then Sat. morning when we got up intending to hop in the truck and drive 4 hrs to our son's, our one very old (almost 15ys) large dog, who has been becoming more and more distressed and anxious, had a major slide. So instead of heading to our son's, we took her to the vet, who basically coached us through the process of letting go. Then to son's. But a Very long day yesterday! Did have a great time with the kids and son/DIL though.

I'm finally back to a project I started a few weeks ago. It's a Keepsake kit I'd bought over a year ago. I think this is the first quilt I'm doing where I'm not in love with the fabrics (they looked better in the catalog), but it kept mocking me from the fabric closet...

My main goal to get it done is that I have finally decided to get a long arm (gently used, pick it up next month) so I don't have to baste the quilt sandwiches anymore, and I need some to get some quilt tops done so it doesn't get a chance to turn into a long-term clothes rack the day we get it set up (like most exercise equipment does) :p

That Friendship Star Wreath sure is pretty, Ube!

I got a top sandwiched and stipple quilted this weekend. It's for a friend in my quilting group. She will put on the binding. Then I finished another 2 for an older lady in our group who can no longer quilt, but she loves to piece tops! We can hardly keep up with her.

I also finished this blankie for my Granddaughter Millie. Her first birthday is coming up this Friday, so I'll have this plus other goodies for her gift.

I was finally able to do some work in the studio today. I had my two grands this weekend for a "sleepover", ages 3 and almost 2. Had a blast. Also visited my 94 year old DGF, he still lives in his own home after being widowed after we lost my gram about 5 years ago. I did work on cutting some baby bibs out today, and did get some 2.5 inch strips cut for jelly roll table runners and pillow borders. No time at the machine, but prepping for projects was enough to make me happy, along with seeing my grands and DGF.

Just checking in. I was so busy cutting, piecing and making and correcting errors yesterday that I forgot to post my progress. The photo below is the start of a stashing busting quilt. Chose purple for no reason at all except I have plenty of choices in the purple bin. I have this many or more blocks cut to grow this quilt in the next week. Hope to finish the top by the week-end.

Also, worked on a block exchange quilt.Just need to add is a narrow sashing and corner stones then another top ready for quilting.

Cleaned up all the little scraps and snips from here and there that seem to following me about the the house. Trying to wrangle them into just one room.

Overall, this was a good quilting week-end.

I’m loving the conversations and the pictures.

I visited my son, DIL, and grandson Jack yesterday. He was awake for a while and it was fun cuddling and reading to him. He is 2 weeks old today.

I have been working on some projects and also cleaning surfaces in my sewing area. I rearranged some things last week and now a good scissors is missing. It’s probably staring me in the face. 😊

I finished my 6.5” unfinished crazy quilt squares. I cut them with a die which requires 2 passes to have enough for the 10 blocks. I don’t have a plan for using them.

happylab 02-16-2020 07:51 PM

I finally finished the rwb quilt I have been working on for 3-4 months. Yesterday I gave it to my niece.

Today I finished the valentine challenge top. Tonight I will quilt and bind. I need it for our guild challenge.

Then tomorrow afternoon I will quilt some fabric for a large bag I will make on Tuesday. Then it’s rest time. I will not get to BHMQ until Thursday or Friday (ah).

I really enjoy seeing and hearing about everyone’s finishes.

MicheleC 02-16-2020 10:14 PM

I worked on trimming and ironing the HSTs in my Hunter’s Star today. Only 15 more blocks worth to go! My legs got tired from standing and cutting because I forgot to bring my fatigue mat from the kitchen.

Everyone’s projects are looking great! I love VQW for the project sharing aspect.

I am picking up my grandsons in Portland today...they live in Key West but are coming up to stay for the week. Ages 5 and 3 and I am so excited ... I doubt I’ll get much time in the sewing room this week. : )

Very little quilting done yesterday, but I did a fair amount of cutting scraps to useful sizes. I seem to have to be in the mood to cut and cut accurately and I've learned when the mood strikes, just go with the flow. Have a great President's Day everyone.

UBE Quilting, love your wall hanging.

Quiltingshorttimer, so sorry about your dog.

Sewbiz girl, beautiful blankie for dgd Millie.

WMU Teach, great stash buster.

Retiredteacher09, enjoy that new grandson Jack. You cannot believe how fast they grow up! Like your crazy quilt squares.

Not the best picture but all that is left to do is hand sew the binding to the back. Got this one finished (number 2) also started cutting for Number 3 for dgs. Good VQW for me! I'm going to enjoy our 10 month old ggs this afternoon.

Good morning everyone, happy holiday and enjoy the best of it. Love seeing everyone's work this weekend and glad I got a little something completed myself. The rest of this day I am running errands, put that off until today, I think it was a good call. I like Conchalea, I really got to get packing I'll be making that giant move from Kansas to Georgia. It will be here before I know it.

Let me type is right this time, "Happy VQW Sew Day"

Quiltingshorttimer, I am so sorry about your dog. I hope your back doesn't bother you too long.

Sounds like many of you are getting to family time along with quilting this weekend. I spent yesterday afternoon with my husband, just relaxing and catching up on a couple tv shows. This morning he helped me run errands. Now I'm trying to do a few things around hte house so not sure I'll get back in the sewing room or not. But been a good productive weekend overall. Keep posting your updates--love seeing and reading what everyone is up to.

I was able to get 25 more 2-1/2 blocks finished yesterday, adding up to 260 blocks total now. This is for the Circa 1880 quilt. I need over 700 blocks so I have a ways to go. Today I have errands to run but I plan to do some more sewing tonight.

Better late than never...It's a holiday in Canada...Family Day...so I guess technically it's still the weekend.

I finished putting together my flying geese pattern. I was going to add an extra couple of borders because I mistakenly made too many piano keys, but they are just going into my "Orphan Blocks" drawer for another time. I bought a really cool, multi coloured check for the backing.

I also finished the "base" for an experimental wallhanging that I am doing which is based on a rug I saw once. I must say it doesn't look like much so far, but bear (bare?) with me and we'll see what happens. It's only fabric, right?

I am almost to the end of the quilting on my queen size batik that I began before Christmas. I'll be glad when that is off my mid-arm.

A couple of pics of the first two projects.

I ended up not getting near what I wanted to accomplish this VQW, I had a mild migraine creep in on me Friday night and spent all day Saturday just crocheting up some much needed pot holders in bed. Sunday, I spent much of the day in my quilting space, mostly reorganizing and rearranging and did some pieces on my hexies. Today, I'm hoping to do some more, fiance is down with his sinuses, so I'll have a nice, quiet rest of the day to myself. It's going to be icky and rainy all day, perfect day to put on some soft music and get lost in some quilting.

Everyone's quilts are so beautiful and creative, we've got a great bunch of quilters!

sewbizgirl 02-17-2020 12:52 PM

Your 9 patches look good, Christine!

Watson, good for you, with all those flying geese. They are my nemesis, so hats off to you!

Brat, hope you got rid of that migraine.

Cheshirepat 02-17-2020 01:55 PM

Congratulations to all who ended up getting things done! My weekend saw me in my sewing room only to:
1) tear up my fabric bins in search of my lightweight fusible interfacing - *where* did it go!?!
2) sit for a few practicing French knots and bullion stitches for embroidery

However on the upside, we did take a bike ride (perfect weather *now*, and the last of it for the summer) and have a date night Saturday. Even got some cleaning done. Back to work today, maybe some sewing time this week!

Conchalea 02-17-2020 03:53 PM

Watson, gorgeous flying geese!
Great job on finishing quilting goals, everyone.
I'm using some left over blocks from a quilt I made last year to make pillowcases. My younger daughter has the quilt, so these cases will go to her.

I finished stitching my scrap buster and pieced a backing but had to clean house as I have company Tues...and then Wed.. and again Thurs... but got all my housework accomplished and have the table set so grabbed a little pile of Quilter's Candy I had won at a retreat a few years back... I have picked up this little pile of 2 1/2" squares and moved them too many times.... today they got sewn into a place mat which I will donate at some point.

Lets see if this works. I cleaned the kitchen floor and then had a baste-a-thon with 3 projects; Peacock churn dash for friends with 2 little girls, jelly race a gift for friend of friend who is pregnant, and the woodland critters will be a gift for my nephew.

I was able to baste my quilt this afternoon. Looking forward to quilting it.

MicheleC 02-17-2020 09:10 PM

I spent a little time squaring HSTs today. Monday’s are now crafting day with a friend of mine. I picked up a rolling tote for travel crafting today. It’s a much better setup than my backpack, so I’m happy.

It’s been a great VQW! It looks like lots of progress was made! Enjoy your week, all!

rryder 02-18-2020 04:38 AM

Love the flying geese, Watson!

I managed to get the UFO basted and started quilting it yesterday. Still need to make a hanging sleeve and label for the previous finish- will do that today,

I enjoyed seeing what everyone was working on this weekend. Thanks for hosting, Raggiemom!!,

Christine - your little blocks are great - I see some awesome fussy-cutting in there! I underestimated how much work it would be to assemble the rows on my Circa 1880... but I got the last one done last night at 7 p.m. I need to press the top and put the border on, but I was so tired last night that I just could not do anything else. I'll post a photo soon. It sounds like a lot of people got a lot done. Congratulations to everyone!
