It sure has been fun seeing all of the pictures and reading about all of the projects everyone is making this weekend. I don't do anything on Saturdays, it is my sabbath. But, I got on more cutting and gardening yesterday. We went and bought a new refrigerator and dishwasher for the kitchen. That was fun. They will be here the 18th to install them.

I have to attend a barbeque at my sister's today, so I doubt I will get much else done except this reading on the board. But, I wish you all happy sewing and full bobbins.

Thanks, Rob! I'll try that blue pen. It's nice to know there is something that goes away and stays gone when you no longer want it. Soap sounds good on the darks. At least you know that will wash out!

I have only tried rulers a bit. I bought some with my machine, but I think I might need to take a class on how to use them. What's the trick to holding them steady and also maneuvering your quilt at the same time?

Get some sandpaper dots, Handgrip or shelf liner to put on the bottom of the ruler. I prefer the handgrip as it's clear and has a sandpaper texture that really holds onto the fabric. You only need a small bit in a couple of places on the ruler. Then, when holding the ruler remember to keep your hand partly on the ruler and partly on the quilt. I also often use both hands on the ruler (one on each end.)

Here are some photos: 1st two show the way I hold the ruler if I'm using one hand at each end with the ruler in front of or behind the ruler foot. The last photo is how I hold the ruler if I'm only holding it with one hand. On that last one, if I was moving the fabric toward me, my hand would be further up the ruler and my thumb would not be hanging off the ruler, but you can see where I have a least a finger off the ruler on the fabric. Also do not push Down on the ruler in an effort to get it to grip the quilt, that makes it harder to work with-- Use Handgrip or sandpaper dots, or shelf liner on the back of the ruler to help it cling to the quilt. On the last picture, you can see the square of handgrip that I've got on the bottom of the ruler (the area that looks frosted just below my index finger).

Hope that helps.
Rob

Great accomplishments happening! I made a bad cut on one of my fabrics and ended up spending a lot of my sewing time yesterday tracking down the replacement fabric. Then I finished the cutting for that project. I realize I am stalling on my piecing project because there is a line in the instructions that I just don’t understand and I have this vague troubling feeling that I’m screwing up my quilt top so I’m going to post it on the board and see if I can clarify what they mean. Hopefully I can get that settled and make some progress on this thing.

My VQW has been a total bust. Didn't get my scraps sorted or any time in the sewing room. On the other hand I've had a great time visiting and playing table games with my baby sister (64) and DH.The giggles are worth putting the sewing room on the back burner. It will still be there when I can get to it.

Started doing the fill today on my NY Beauty wall hanging, using my new mid arm. A few bobbles, but it's going OK.

Thank you Rob! The photos help... and so will practice, I'm sure. Where do you buy "hand grip"?

Lovely quilting already, Watson!

Hi, I just don't have any energy left! I finished the hand binding on 6 out of the 10 of the baby quilts I had planned to do for this VQW. The last 4 will just have to wait until next time, but, of course, the 4 will have multiplied in the dark and I'll have an additional dozen or two waiting for me. Alas, alas and woe me! Think I'll eat some worms! :)

I finished the quilt top from my mystery. I am going on Wednesday to get some border fabric. I hope I can find something I like.

Congratulations on all the hard work this weekend

You all have been sooo busy! Our garage sale was great, sold over $1000 of stuff we did not need. LOL The heat was brutal though, I do not deal with it well anymore. But we still have lots left, and plan to do another 1 day in a couple of weeks and then another in September for the cool weather/back to school clothes.
