Nope, I'm a machine wash girl only. That sounds like way too much work. Plus, I'd have to clean out the tub first to wash the quilt and I'm not doing any unnecessary housework! :>

I understand that cleaning out the tub stuff! Sometimes washing a quilt is my excuse for cleaning the tub. Like cleaning the house when company is coming.
Like I said, there are a few chipped (rusty) areas in the washer tub enamel, so no way am I putting a mostly white quilt in there. Just brought it in, it came out nice. BTW, about this washing machine. Bought an old house (our first house) in 1981, it was in there on a side porch. Had been sitting our in freezing weather all winter. Tried it, it worked, kept it. After a few months, noticed it was sluggish emptying. Took apart hoses in back, an entire men's longsleeve shirt came out of a 1.5" hose. And no, I did not recognize it. Worked fine after that, had to replace one belt in the last 30 years. It's a GE. |
OMG that is hilarious. A whole shirt? Was it torn or anything? Did it have a ton of lint on it? I'm amazed it worked at all for you before turning sluggish.

That's a new one to me. I think I'll pass though.

I,too, use my washing machine on a gentle cycle ... and use Synthropol.

Can't say that I've ever done that. I use Orvus soap (no phosphates) and have never worried about spots. I machine wash my quilts and I think my new front loader is gentler than I am when I hand wash!!!

nope, no tasting from the tub!--wait a minute, hubby hasn't been making BATHTUB GIN, has he?--might taste that!just kidding, don't like gin!

Boscobd --do you worry about colors running? I know most quilters pre-wash, i use a lot of scraps (small) so I don't. But I do worry about colors running and only wash in cold water.
Just finished washing an embroidered top , never used it but it has some discolorations from storage. I think it came out good, I am selling it on ebay as I know I will never get around to finishing it. I do like doing the cross stitch embroidery, I think I did about 5 of the kit tops, this is the only one I did not finish. |
THis was a kit, but I changed the colors as it had a lot of bright colors (two shades of gold) and i wanted more pastels. Yes, I am going to sew up that last bit at the bottom.
