You may want to look into a 60mm cutter for cutting through more layers. Also, ask them to open the package so you can feel it in your hand. I have fibro and arthritis, so if it doesn't feel good, it isn't going to work for me. :wink: They should feel right in your hand, not awkward. :D:D:D

Hey, me too! It's one reason I've been in here most of the day instead of sewing. I think someone snuck in and attached lead weights to my arms and legs while I slept last night and I can hardly move. The new Martelli Ergonomic Cutter is supposed to really be good for those of us with FMS and arthritis. It's something I am planning to get within the next 6 months and when I do I'll let you know if it really makes a difference or not.

I like Olfa - because I used their other types of utility knifes in my job before I started quilting. I also like the bright yellow plastic handle - it's easy to find on a messy quilting table! I buy non-Olfa brand replacement blades, though, as they are much cheaper.

I use an Olfa rotary cutter, size 45. It works great!

I use the Martelli and Olfa, like them both....

That is my favorite, too. I've worn out one of them. They are really good and easy on your body.

I'm a huge fan of Gingher even though the blades are quite pricey...thank goodness for Joann's coupons and frequent sales on cutting supplies. The balance is good and the rolling mechanism is smooth. I've been getting much more mileage out of their blades so the extra cost is not as great as it might seem. Safety first is really an issue with all cutters so whatever brand you are most comfortable using will make it easier to stay safe.

I love my Olfa. It's just a regular one but I automatically retract the blade every time I cut. My dear kitty cats could get hurt if I don't. (They are always around when I get out my fabric. )

I use a Fiskers 45mm for just quick cuts. I was using Fiskars 65mm for the longest time when I had a few layers to cut but now I cannot find the blades for it.
I have a Gingher (45mm) that I love, feels good in the hand..smooth...love it.
I did not like the OLfa very much at all, felt flimsy to me.
I also have gotten in the habit very early on to retract after making the cut to save on blade nicks.

I love my Olfa ergonomic cutter! I bought the cutter and lots of blades really cheap on eBay. I think it was about $18 including shipping for the cutter and about a dozen blades. Much cheaper than Joann's, even with a coupon.
