I think this would look good too. Another thought would be to use the blocks whole with black sashing. You could add some marbles, blenders, solids to the mix also. Pretty layer cake!

This is what I would do. The squares are so striking, I'd hate to cut them at all.

Oh yes! I hadn't thought of kaleidescope. That would be beautiful!

This pattern is free from BENARTEX. you can go to www.benartex.comand find the pattern. The name is DeNQvo. The large squares are 9.5"so your 10" sqs are perfect. You will not have to cut the lovely fabrics into small pieces. What do you think?

I followed the link and could not find the pattern.

It took some detective work but I found it!

Put a one inch strip of some color in each layer cake around each layer cake, sash them all with black and you'll have a spectacular. froggyintexas

Paula Nadelstern designs her fabric with her signature kaleidoscope quilt style in mind.
Many have made OBW's using it.
I made a large kaleidoscope quilt from her Luminosity collection.

But you need multiple repeats with the same portion of the fabric design to make the kaleidoscope.

All the OP has are 10" blocks - and only 2 of each pattern - and who knows if they're identical cuts.

So if there was enough fabric, then absolutely cut the pattern up into smaller pieces because you can create something larger that's beautiful from those smaller pieces.

But, sadly, there isn't.

Farm Quilter 09-17-2012 01:24 PM

I would use them with a solid black between in a Twister pattern! Every piece of fabric would be showcased against the black and look FABULOUS!!! You hit the jackpot with these fabrics!!!

alfosa421 09-17-2012 01:26 PM

oh myngoodness! What fabulous fabric! Would die to have yardage of all of them..it just screams for kaleidoscopes! !!!

Have you seen the Missouri Star Quilt Company's tutorial on the double slice layer cake?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxC-0T5lXw4

It could be fun with those fabrics or you could add a solid in with them.

I was going to suggest this also. I think it would be great with those fabrics.

Thank you for doing the detective work cause I couldn't find it either.

I love a Wanda's blog:

Thanks to y'all all for all the suggestions! Here is a link to the line of fabric that it is...
http://www.paulanadelstern.com/fabri...ne=Patternista I did buy this from Missouri Star as it was offered as one of their daily deals. I saw it and fell in love with the vivid colors. It also reminded me of some artwork my son had recently created so I knew I had to have it. I really do hope to keep the blocks large to show off the prints with whatever design I go with. Here are a couple of pictures that my son designed on his computer.
As soon as I decided what to do with this layer cake, I'll be sure to let you know! I'm leaning toward the DeNQvo!

Judith1005 09-17-2012 04:44 PM

How about a square in a square bordered in black. That way you won't loose too much of the print. Look forward to seeing what you decide.

LadyElisabeth 09-17-2012 04:45 PM

Those fabrics are out-of-this-world beautiful. I think I would not want to cut them up into small pieces for sure.

QM 09-17-2012 04:49 PM

That looks good to me.

Quiltingcrazy, why don't you use Bubblejet to prepare fabric, iron it onto freezer paper and get your son to print it for you?

meanmom 09-17-2012 04:53 PM

I have quite a few of these fabrics in my stash. I think I have a yard of about 6 of them. I can't bear to cut them. I have been trying to decide for quite some time how to best use them. I look forward to seeing what you do with them.

QuiltingKrazy 09-17-2012 04:59 PM

I found a site that has this line and then some! I may have to buy a yard or two to use for borders and what not!

duckydo 09-17-2012 05:13 PM

I like oma66's idea, that would be very stunning

sandraphippard 09-17-2012 07:16 PM

How about a twister quilt using the large twister tool.

I haven't read all the pages of this thread, but I definitely vote for NOT cutting them up into small pieces like the D9P would do. I'd either do this DeNQvo one linked or what one lady called the Potato chip quilt by just sashing these pieces. These are really neat pieces and should shine as they are--

BETTY62 09-17-2012 08:58 PM

I love that fabric. I am looking forward to seeing what pattern you decide upon.

rj.neihart 09-18-2012 03:20 AM

Wonky fabric...lol....no idea on the pattern.

Shirlrh 09-18-2012 03:50 AM

I like the fabric and I am anxious to see what you decide!

Cris 09-18-2012 04:31 AM

How about this pattern that I used to make my niece's quilt? It keeps your fabric pieces intact.

stchenfool 09-18-2012 05:26 AM

I would do big blocks to show case the beautiful fabrics with black sashing. love them!

I think your fabric is just gorgeous! My first thought was strips (OK it was my second thought, first was how much fun I could have with it - lol). Or a Yellow Brick Road. Please post pics after you've finished you new quilt. Have fun.

karenpatrick 09-18-2012 06:50 AM

Can't wait to see the quilt that you make from that.

lfstamper 09-18-2012 06:56 AM

Oma66 that is a great pattern especially for this gorgeous fabric. Can't wait to see her finished product.

I immediately thought of the 10 Minute block - it uses 5 - 10" blocks. One in each corner and one in middle. If you used solid black or coordinating fabric for two of the blocks and maybe a different one for the center. I just made two 10 minute blocks and they're super easy and you get a lot of bang for the buck.

Imakequilts 09-18-2012 08:22 AM

This looks to be perfect for those beautiful pieces.

kaylfordsollimo 09-18-2012 08:38 AM

I recommend the 10 minute block with a black center and black sashing. That would look amazing!

JenBen 09-18-2012 08:44 AM

How about folded star patchwork?

:)

PKGranny 09-18-2012 08:53 AM

Thanks, detective, for finding this for me. It's just wonderful that everyone on this board is so willing to help others! I love this pattern.

margecam52 09-18-2012 08:58 AM

I Haven't had time to read all the replies, but my thought is why not go to the designer for ideas?

http://www.paulanadelstern.com/quilt-gallery/index.html

The above takes you to Paula's quilt gallery. Search there for ideas....and she does cut these up. I'd use them in pinwheels or flying geese type blocks, black would be my background fabric...or the red or blue from the fabrics. I'm not big on yellow or apple green...but these with black sashings...wow!

quiltingnonie 09-18-2012 09:17 AM

That is some WILD fabric! You could make snowball blocks, with black for the corners.

GrannieAnnie 09-18-2012 09:36 AM

On second thought-----------the DeNovo pattern is just perfect for your pieces. And the black sashing is also perfect.

GrannieAnnie 09-18-2012 09:38 AM

Your son's art is beautiful.

GrannieAnnie 09-18-2012 09:40 AM

just realized, the DeNovo is like the turning twenty pattern, but with sashing. Great pattern. And should sew up pretty quick.

irma tapia 09-18-2012 10:16 AM

I would the 10" block pattern for sure.....only 3 seams per block and no cutting. The fabric is too pretty to cut up. I used this pattern and loved it and it sewed up pretty quick. Google Suzanne McNeil 10" squares and there will be a tut.

Let us know what you end up doing.
