I don't like to buy fabric online unless I have to, have been disappointed too many times in color and quality.

It's all in the FEEL of the fabric for me If its too thin, too coarse, or too stiff I just won't buy it!!

So, I'm in your neighborhood, maybe... Where do you go to purchase fabric?

If I see it and really like it, I buy it. Especially if on sale! Because for sure when I need a certain color etc., I won't be able to find it! (Just like finding an outfit for a special occasion - I always see things I like but have no use for. Then something special comes up and I can't find anything!!)

SOmetimes, I look for something to go with a specific project, but for the most part: I see, I like, I buy. (The veni vedi vici of fabric)

Well, after reading everyone's answers....yes to all, plus my own special likes, and whatever grabs my attention when I am eBay shopping. I have gotten some great deals on fabulous fabric there...but it takes time to go through pages and pages of some not so good choices to find the really CHOICE stuff. But I think it's worth it...our LQSs are really expensive here, so I don't shop there. Sorry....I have to stick to my budget.

If I am shopping for fun and don't really need anything, I usually shop for price--what's on clearance, is there a sale, etc. I also look to find good lights and darks, as another poster mentioned, because like many people I tend to have too many middle value fabrics. In general, I am always looking to expand my use of color. I am trying to "lighten up" my color choices. I use solids frequently because they are economical, but I do buy good brands.

I was recently interested in trying some Amy Butler fabrics. I was able to find a good deal at fabric.com using a sale (25% off) and free shipping and got the fabrics for about 33% off retail. I think that's a good deal. And I didn't use any gas! The fabrics are good quality too.

I also love orange fabrics and the colors that go well with them. Also turquoise and greens.

Well hello from Snowy Nebraska too! I have to agree with Scissor Queen... there is supposed to be criteria? It seems I always have 3 or 4 projects in my head, so I am always looking for fabric for that "vision". Recently it has been fabric that could be used for dog hair, as I "see" a wonderful applique quilt of my wonderful English Setters!

This is kinda/sorta on the same topic. A while ago, I went into our LQs (and hadn't been there in several weeks). I promised myself that I wouldn't buy fabric. Well, as luck would have it, I spotted pieces that weren't there the last time I was there. After I made my purchase, I asked her if I could just walk around. She smiled (knowing I would weaken and spend a few $$) and said, "Sure, take all the time you like." I did. Looked, touched, and then said thanks and walked out.

All the way home, I thought about the pieces I should have bought. Darn! :lol:
