Bernina 830 can fetch $830 or up in $ if in good shape with all the feet and case.

I have a Bernina 1020 which I bought in 1992, it cost $1300. Still going strong and love it! I do have it tuned up every 1-1 1/2 years. Works like a charm, never had a problem.

Thanks. There is one here for about $300, used, of course, but I don't know HOW used....just wondering if that was a good price if the machine is in good working condition...
From what I've seen the people who have them pretty much all seem completely in love with their machines and convinced of their durability. |
In my opinion, that's a fabulous price for a 1030/1031!!

I don't think many Berninas, Pfaffs, Necchis, or Vikings are found at garage/yard sales! (Maybe Janomes, too?)
I think most of the people that have them - if the original owners - are reluctant to part with them. |
OK, I have a Bernina 1020 and yes it has always been my workhorse. I bought it when it was brand new, maybe 20 years ago. I think I paid around $850. The box had been opened. I have only had a problem with the hook and it was repaired at the dealership. I liked it so much I bought a Bernina 1530. Just beware that the machine is probably out of warranty. It is hard to tell how well the machine has been maintained. GOOD LUCK !!

I bought my 1030 new in 1988, and I don't consider it old at all. Best sewing machine I ever had. I don't recall what I paid, but close to $900 I think.

I have a 1031 and I paid about $1300.00 but at the time I thought it was a lot! I will say I LOVE the machine and knock on work it has never failed me!

I bought my 1031 used for about $800 over a decade ago and I'll never get rid of it. Just DO NOT pick it up and carry it by the handle!!! There is a design 'issue' with the handle that will probably create a slight noise inside the machine if your carry it around by the handle. That irritating slight clanging does nothing to hurt the function of the machine, but just don't use the handle. YES, I forgot and had to pay *twice* to get it fixed. Otherwise, the 1031 has had ZERO issues all these years. I sew everything from heavy drapes to ballgowns on the 1031 and it's been *perfect* all these years. |

Did any of you get this machine when it was new? If so, what year and what did you pay? And is it still working well?
I'm looking for a "workhorse" for a friend and there is one for sale here. She needs quiet and totally dependable. This one has come up for sale, but it is old (?) I have no idea how old...that's why I'm asking you all here. I've tried to google it and all I can find is that it is called a vintage machine, but still fetches a decent price on the used market. I can't find anywhere what year these were 'released'. |
