i'm repeating that pattern from a quilt i saw online. it used all hst's and i really liked the layout. there may be a pattern but i do not know what it is.

and surely my hst's triangles are probably a different size than the original quilt pic i saw, but i am using 3.5" & 4" squares so my quilt will reflect that.

the first quilt i got from an online pic. i had been making small hst's (as leaders/enders or breaks) from fabric scraps i cut from blocks and wanted an idea to make a quilt with them.

You might try Quiltinaday.com for Eleanor Burn's triangle square up ruler. With it the triangle is squared up after sewing but before opening into a square. It is also available at our LQS and Joann's. Another that helps is Tucker Trimmer, www.studio180design.net Eleanor has other rulers also.

I was thinking this as well. By doing this you would be able to have a very scrappy set of quilts since the blocks would be interchangeable in all the quilts!

you could make a quilt with any size square and add a sashing around them I made one with light colors sashing and blue fabrics and it was really cute. there is a free pattern from 'allpeoplequilt.com" I will try and attach, they used dark sashing, and a little wider that I used. But you can get the idea. Very easy , especially if you have several to do.

if you use the method of stacking two squares, sew on each side of the diagonal line, cut, trim : you will get 3 1/2" raw
triangles. then you can pair them with other 6" blocks, etc.
very versatile size. lightly starch each square as you stack
them. the older prints look best in traditional patterns.

I had hundreds of different size sq's also that i found in a bag of scrape frabic from a thrift store....i have cut hexagon from them to do english paper piecing.....i am going to design a flower garden with a water stream and a big tree

You could sew them into 4 patch blocks and then cut them up and do Disappearing 4 Patches... it's so much cooler looking than Disappearing 9 patch.

Here is a tut from Missouri Star for an easy way to make hst's. Haven't tried it yet but looks super easy.
