Retreats are a blessing! You should go on one whenever you can.
Our guild organizes 2 a year and I've been to all of them for the past 4 years. This is where I got to know others, learn from the experienced ones, laughed until my sides ached and actually got to sew at my own pace. We drive to a camp about 160 miles from home, bring everything we want to sew on and then go shopping at local guilt stores (4) for anything we need, want or just have to try. The camp provides most of the meals and we go as a group on the ones they don't. One camp consists of 12 and the other consists of 24 quilters. Usually there are others quilters from other parts of the state there and we all share what we are working on. We never take one give project, that way we can share so much more in techniques, etc. We also have a camp fairy that for the past years has brought and left at our stations cute "welcome" presents, such as a handmade mug filled with chocolates, gift bag with essentials you might have forgotten (soap, bandaids, shampoo, lotion) and a other treasures. We also have drawings and this very silly tradition - some one brought in a rubber chicken and he has now become our mascot, we draw a name for the "winner" to take the chicken home and either add clothing or something to bird then it's brought to the next retreat to be presented to the next "winner". So far this bird has received an amazing collection of clothing, hairpieces, and a hand quilted sleeping bag. Sew cute! ;0)
Anyway, retreats are wonderful and an amazing time away to get spoilt and to have fun. Try one when you can.
