Nanna up North with the cold snowy weather...I would love to see some of your rugs that you have made.

I woke up to a dusting of snow here in the UP.... beautiful. .... wish I could just sit and enjoy..... but.. we are headed to a book sale and fiber fair this morning, then we'll come back home to watch football games and baseball games. I'll be working on a lap quilt for my great nephew as well.

I love those locker hooking rugs.... they make my ugly fabric disappear. I made one rug with a bear in the middle for our cabin and another rug is just lots of different fabrics. I'm planning on doing another one this winter with a fish in the center.... again to take to the cabin. But, I turn the outside edge in and do 4 rows all the way around. I don't have to make any kind of border that way.

You all go have a wonderful Saturday.

carolaug 10-06-2012 09:29 AM

this is my first rag quilt...what I find it is alot smaller when you sew them together...

I just sat down with my coffee after cleaning all of the house except the 2 bathrooms. Today will not be a sewing day for me, we are having our friends in to play bridge, the a pizza and salad dinner. Also DH favourite cousin is coming from VA on Wednesday fro 10 days (thus the reason to clean the house from top to bottom) we will be taking her to Las Vegas next w/e - so I am afraid there will not be too much sewing taking place for the next couple of weeks. I know I will go into withdrawal, but I will be able to knit some dishclothes for Xmas gifts while visiting in the evening.

We bought a new car that has a clearance too low to go over a cement ridge under the gate to our property so today my husband and I are going to be breaking up cement! Lots of exercise. Then I am going to paint, read and get our clothes ready to go to church tomorrow.

GOOD GRIEF! What are all of you doing up in the middle of the night? ;-))

What I am doing today is making vegetable relish from all of the leftover vegetables cleaned out from the garden yesterday. We pulled or picked green tomatoes, carrots, red and green peppers, cabbage, onions. Cutting them all up today and letting them sit overnight in salt. I will be canning it all in pint jars tomorrow.

I will be quilting tonight, after DH goes to bed.

Learner747 10-06-2012 10:08 AM

Guests tonight so I have dinner in the oven and a clean kitchen. Babysitting daughter's dogs while she goes to yard sales; and for me I'm cutting fabric for making a One Block Wonder. Oh, yeah. I'm also waiting for the furnace man to come.

donac 10-06-2012 10:18 AM

Dh is away camping. This morning I sewed the main squares for a laptop. I spent an hour hand quilting a quilt.

I was up at midnight and couldn't get back to sleep until at least 2 and then I was up at 5 so I just took a 20 minute nap. I have to go clean up the kitchen.

I want to cut and sew the D9P top together and then hand quilt some more.

I do have to run to grocery store and pick up a prescription.

Have a great day everyone.

This is the only one I can show you right now. I made it about 5 years ago and it still washes up just fine. It is at the back door so it gets lots of use. The other one I made is at my son's house, down state. And, I really want to make one with a fish to bring up to the cabin next spring.

Love it! Now that I think about it, I think the LQS I go to had a class to do something similar several years ago. I did not have time to do the class but I bought a book. Think I will search for it later on!

Everyone is so busy.. I just got on the board after my nap. lol .. So far today I did take the dog for a walk, get 2 pkgs. ready to mail out on Monday and give the dog(and me) a bath.
This is what was in the one pkg I mailed out. The other was a Willie Nelson doll that a friends dog had gotten ahold of and I repaired.
I have to give a big thanks to Dawn from the board who made my labels for me..

I am being taken on a fabric shopping spree and then onto lunch by my daughter-in-law as a belated birthday gift.

Looking forward to it very much. I have an idea for my next quilt and I have a "few gaps" in colour in the fabrics that I intend using so I hope to remedy that today.

Then I need to figure out how in the world to hang the wall haning. It is a large 1/2 circle, or arced cut, and I am going to hang it over our fireplace insert, on brick. If anyone has any good ideas on how to do that, I'd sure appreciate the input. Otherwise, have a great Saturday y'all.

My DD did a peacock wallhanging, made a sleeve on the back and inserted wire or an old cut-to-size coat hanger. It worked pretty well.

Finishing up some casserole carriers. Doing laundry--------FOLDING LAUNDRY--which I hate----------playing on the computer.

This morning had nothing at all to do with my sewing room or quilting. I spent the morning making choc covered bacon. Had a friend that wanted to buy some from me. I Quoted him a price of $30/lb (bacon n chocolate is expensive you know, plus my time) and he quickly agreed to it!

gramajo 10-06-2012 12:42 PM

DD and I went to a quilt show this am. They had a resale shop & she got 4 or 5 good sized batting pieces. She paid $2. for all of them. We came back here & she straightened out some problems with my computer & looked at all 284 pictures I took on my recent trip to CA.

Have to go to grocery store; think I'll get something to put in crock pot for dinner after work tomorrow.
Whoever posted about the crock pot, thanks for the idea.

THEN I'll be able to work on my brother's National Park quilt for a Christmas gift.

What do you do when you have too much stuff and not enough room?

craftyheart2 10-06-2012 01:58 PM

I am cutting some more on my two projects I am taking to retreat next weekend.

carolaug 10-06-2012 02:07 PM

I took a break and went to a wool hop...different farms in different town host vendors and also sell their own stuff. I bought mittens and roving

Happy Tails 10-07-2012 03:12 AM

OMG Carol, I love that!!! What an awesome way to use scraps and also have something to do while supposidly relaxing watching TV....Would the thing with the holes come from Michaels? Would you do it the same way as rug hooking with wool? I guess you'd just cut the strips the right length? Wow I love it, so homey looking :)

Happy Tails 10-07-2012 03:15 AM

Did I tell ya work is over-rated???? Cuz that's what I'm doin today!!! It really does interfere with my quilting!!!

MimiBug123 10-07-2012 03:54 AM

Up too early! Checked on crock pots for church dinner today. Now working on appliqueing blocks for DGD's little ponies quilt. I really need to get it finished before her b'day on the 18th. will be working on cleaning another vintage machine given to me yesterday by a friend. Her name is Chelsea and I think I'll paint her pink!

pollyjvan9 10-07-2012 04:15 AM

Well I worked very hard on My French Hens yesterday, but had company, had to go to Lowe's for lumber so my son can repair the porch on a rent house, and then had to take a nap. So today, I will finish what I started yesterday and maybe finish the one I have about 1/2 of the quilting done. (Unless I have company again today.)

Get to quilting! That's what I do! LOL

carolaug 10-07-2012 04:31 AM

I buy it at Ben Franklins for 3.99 size is 24x30 - its called rug canvas. I am going to try Burlap for my next one. I want to make one for the end of my bed. I think my cats will love it. I use 1 to 1 1/2 strips. You can sew the strips together or just use them. I did one that I sewed the strips and the back looked as nice as the front.

carolaug 10-07-2012 04:38 AM

oh and for the latch hook rug if you use burlap. The strips would be 1/4 strips.

catladyquilts 10-07-2012 04:41 AM

what a wonderful idea for the bin full of scraps, thanks for the inspiration

romanojg 10-07-2012 04:43 AM

Great job. I sure wish that thrift store was by me. I'd be rushing there. I like your rug in process as well. Today I'm at work but I spent the past three days working on things for my DGS's first Halloween party; he's 6. So far are done on my Ruby embroidery machine. I got gifts for him to give out done, (mostly done, just a few touch ups). They are Tic Tac Toe games made from felt with a spider in the middle and all of the Xs and O pieces are little spider webs with either the x or the o on them. It folds up with a handle and you use groments and put holes in the game pieces and they go on a keyring and attach to handle so hopefully they won't get lost. I also made him some sucker (loli pops) covers in the shape of a ghost, a jackolantern and candy corn. Then last night I made him a banner that has 3 ghost held together by ribbon and they spell out Boo. Now I'm going to start his signature wall hanging. I tought it would be great to have all the kids sign his quilt for memories in the future. He's one of my biggest supporter and can't wait until I let him sew. He loves the idea so much that when I got a treadle machine he couldn't believe something could run without plugging it in. I told him that I would never sell it and it was his, that along with my antique bedroom set that he's loved since I started collecting all the marble top pieces. Thursday night my daughter and family stayed the night so that I could cut her tule for her and guide her while she makes her first Halloween costume for her 20 month old daughter. It is a Bell tutu. It's turning out very cute. This week we start on modifiying a thrift store suit for my DGS so he can be the Beast to match his sisters. Next we are modifiing and another thrift store find to make the wedding dress in Beetle Juice. We are doing that one so that she can still use the cute dress once Halloween is done. I did get a little cooking, a little cleaning done as well. I've had a very bust 3 days off and now back at work to relax and get a break so that I can start it over next week. The following week it'll be back to Christmas presents. Mostly on my embroidery machine.

chamby 10-07-2012 04:58 AM

Working on one of the quilts I am giving as a Christmas present and then going to Church.

I am making a rag rug right now but mine is on a frame and the fabric strip are woven into each other. A quilt guild member is teaching a few of us how to do it... her hubby made the frames for us...fun to learn :):)

Today is thanksgiving Sunday in Canada, and my DH and I have just put the stuffed turkey in the oven, and I'm making a make ahead gravy that I read about in the Canadian National Post newspaper. Family are coming at 1. Ca n't wait to get my hands on my grandson (almost 1 year). God is good, and Ihave so much to be thankful for.

Caswews 10-07-2012 05:20 AM

Hmmm a new idea for me to do (the rug .. thanks !) We went up to scout out a camping spot for DH and our son in law to go hunting. Saw a most beautiful bluebird almost a neon blue that kept following us around. Wish it would of lit long enough for me to take a picture-it was so pretty ...Wore our poor avatar out-she is still sleeping this am Sunday. She was so tired when we got home it was all she could do to eat and then go crawl on her spot on the couch !LOL

Phannie1 10-07-2012 05:32 AM

(Sunday Morning) I quilted and sew all day yesterday so I have to start with cleaning my house today. Then I will go to the fair and pick up my quilts and ribbons there. I will also meet my friend to pick up a quilt she quilted for me. Then my husband will be back home from work and need to spend a little time with him. He will have to go to a meeting at 6 so I will then spend the rest of my time sewing and adding binding to the quilts I have to finish them up.

First: I will have another cup of coffee and read the Quilting Board for a few more minutes..... Good morning all.

pollyjvan9 10-07-2012 05:33 AM

Just finished FMQ "My French Hens" (picture is PICTURES). Have two quilts I have decided I need to do a little more quilting on. Going to try to finish those today.

carolaug 10-07-2012 05:43 AM

I have a latch hook frame my Mom gave me and I went to Lowes and bought strips of carpet tack for $2.00 and then valcro it to my frame. Works great...you can get a latch hook frame for 30.00 on amazon or on craigs list pretty cheap. Works great for the larger rugs. For small placemats I just use my lap.
