I just finished a baby quilt top using the Disappearing nine patch with 5" squares (charm sq. size). Sewed the top this past weekend while all the Super Bowl hoopla was going on : ) Have a second one cut and ready to sew. The darker charcoal squares were left over Minkie from our DD Christmas quilt backing. Maybe not the best placing of color, but it used what I had. Got the bright lime green flannel with white dots for the backing for under $3/yd at JoAnn's yesterday on sale.

If you have enough scraps in colour families, I would suggest the crayon one I did. It took about 3 days because it was fun and I wasn't in a hurry but you could piece it in a day easy. The original was a free insert in the October American Patchwork and Quilting. I changed the size of it for a smaller drag-a-long for my GNiece. The crayon strips were cut 2-1/2 X 5-1/2 and the crayon end was 5-1/2 inch square with the side pieces sewn on. I cut 2 inch sashing to go between the crayons.
