I usually hand stitch to the back.
On charity quilts I sometimes pull the binding to the front and use a 'wave' looking stitch on the front. It will catch both quilt and binding in an easy manner. It leaves a little textured look to the binding. |
I really enjoy that little bit of handstitching - it works well for me - truthfully, I find it very relaxing - Just don't ask me to hand sew - no way - just binding...

I don't care to hand sew so I attach all bindings by machine. Like others have said, sew to front, flip to back and SITD. My quilts are all meant to be used and I figure they'll be washed regularly. I think machine stitiching is more durable and stronger than my hand quilting.

I sew it on the top and then hand sticth it to the back, it is because I enjoy it though, that and I don't have a fancy machine and havn't gotten it to look right doing it totally by machine.

I've done machine method, and still do for some things, but I mainly do the sew to front, flip to back and hand sew because I think it looks nicer. Takes a long time, yes, but looks nicer.

It's just a personal preference. I've done both, but prefer the look of the hand stitch.

I hand finish mine because my quilts look better if I hand finish them than if I machine finished them. I've just never been able to machine finish them really well. I just don't have the knack.
