I made one in different shades of blues, cleaning out my meager stash and purchasing a few fat quarters....it turned out great and everyone who sees it likes it

I have made a few = one with purple fat quarters and two with pink fat quarters also made a pink/ray combo an a blue/gray combo. I think a scrappy would be great!

The easiest way to pick fabric for a quilt that I have found is this. You find one fabric that you love, and then use the colors in that to pick the rest of your fabrics. If you need to have everything match perctly, then use the color dots in the salvedge.
I think this makes it a sure color success.

I made one using blue, yellow, green and white. Mainly florals. It was very pretty and donated for a charity quilt. I did not make it that big.

I'd like to make this too and need some clarification...when pattern calls for 30 fat quarters, does this mean they should all be different?? the ones that I have seen in pictures don't appear to use 30 different prints?

Thanks for the link to this pattern. I'm going to use up some of my scraps for this one.

I made one for my nephew's graduation. He plays electric guitar- like a pro, so I chose that theme for him. A novelty print with electric guitars, some flames, a piece of Beatles fabric, because he wore a Beatles T-shirt in some of his graduation photos. After those were chosen, I went to my stash and chose solids and nearly solids in prints that didn't scream girly. When it was all done, I quilted flames on it. Quilting flames was possibly the fastest and easiest quilting I've ever done. I finished the throw size in about an hour.
Since I was working from scraps and remnants from my stash, I found that 1/4 yard of yardage doesn't equate a fat quarter based on the way the directions specify cutting. I had to get creative to use up my pieces. It was scrappy, so it didn't really matter. As far as using 30 for the queen sized, I'd say that more variety will be better, each block has 11 fabrics in it, so it is challenging to lay out without having the same fabric touching.
