what size quilt do you make?

i can make 100 x 100 (although i never had to) out of 108". if i want it longer i just buy more for the length. anything wider would be hard to maneuver on the frame, which is 120". i don't have a king bed so i never needed more than 100" and actually prefer 96-98, where the bed rails are.

I have a 12 frame and its 144 inches.. So, even if I need space to clean out the bobbin etc I would still have room. My last quilt was 109x109. Gave me enough room on each side for the extra you need when longarming. even if It didn't fit you could get a larger quilt done on a frame this size with a little fussing.

Can you share who the rep was and who was the manufacturer of the backing? I am hunting wider backing and I am having no luck.

okay. i know why i need more space. i have the extension table and i leave it on all the time. it requires additional space at the sides. so if i want comfortable space on both sides to change and clean the bobbins, i stay with the 108".

but you're right. without the table, you can do the wider backing and still have room to diddle around.

I use the 118' quite often, but then I do a lot of BIG quilts. I don't like to piece the backs and always manage to use the leftovers in piecing, mug rugs, placemats or something.

Yes, I know the 118" would come in great with me and my friends. We do not seem to know how to make anything smaller than king and extra king! :thumbup:

Can't answer your questions, but I don't think of the extra as "waste". The last wide backing I used, from the leftover I got borders for another quilt and binding for 2 others.
