I would just get a white bedspread and use that beneath the quilt.

I do this all the time with our king size bed. I actually change it out on seasons or holidays :) Lay it out on top of a white bedspread and tuck it under the pillow. Displays nicely.

if you are only using it for looks, I was a beautiful love quilt that was made by an online group of friends when I got my cancer diagnosis last year. It it just exactly the size of the top of my queen mattress (it was actually made for me to snuggle under, but I love to have it on my bed) I like the way it looks just fitting the top of the mattress. Have you tried it on the bed? You may actually like it that way. I would use a beautiful sheet set that coordinates with it.

How about a plain cotton bedspread first and lay your quilts on top. I do that sometimes and you will still be able to use them.

I hand stitched mine onto a bed skirt.

I agree with using a plain coverlet or bedspread and then laying your too small quilt on top as a topper. Maybe put it on at an angle for interest. If just a little too small add a ruffle right to the quilt.

One of the last quilts my Mother made ended up being smaller than she actually wanted.
So she just used the same fabric as the stripping between the squares and made a ruffle. She doubled the fabric, so it's got enough weight to hang well. I like the look! You wouldn't have to make it a ruffle. Double the fabric (think binding) to the measurements you need and stitch it on just inside the binding. Hope you find some way to continue using those quilts. Too much work to be hiding them. :o |
I keep a solid coverlet on the bed and cover that with a quilt that isn't bed sized but more the size of the mattress top. Even smaller. The coverlet acts like a frame around the quilt. I also have eyelet dust ruffles. We like the way it looks.

Both of my kids have king-size beds - I won't be making king size quilts but will purchase plain bedspreads/coverlets and them make them quilts to go over that. I like that look and it will make life simpler.

I like the idea of adding borders
