I've found that a lot ot times. If you look around on the page there may be another button that says Download and will DL without going to something else first.

What you will get with those kinds of offers is tracking cookies, at a minimum. They track what sites you go to, your freinds, the things you buy, etc. Then, they sell that information so that you can be targeted with ads on things the advertisers think you will buy. But, if you buy from Amazon, they already know what kinds of things you buy. If you have free virus protection, they know. If you do Facebook, they know (or twitter, instagram or pinterest).

At a maximum, you will get some kind of "spamware" that will show you pop-up ads. You will then have to reinstall your browser to get rid of it.

A commercial site like that will generally not give you a virus. They want to make money on you, not make you afraid of them. If they were handing out viruses, the word would get around quickly. Their investment in their site would be lost quickly.

I no longer download "free" patterns if you have to download something before you can get it. My computer guy that just fixed my computer told me nothing is "free" and not to download from those sites.

Thank you all so much. Several QB members had the pattern and were kind enough to e-mail it to me. I did check Google, but it turned out to be a different quilt, not the one that I wanted.
I have the pattern now and am a happy camper!

I did not want to add a site that can change my browser....I want to be in control of that!
Thanks to all that answered me!

I would rather not. I share a computer with my husband, so prefer not to change settings.
