If a lot of seams and top thread keeps breaking --- I switch to a size 16 needle and all is well.

Topstitch #14 needle may help a lot.

Thanks, everyone. I figured it out with Watson's idea. I used a generic foot instead of the one that came with the machine. It's an open-toe but that's what the problem was. When I switched to the Juki foot it all worked out.
