    Default problems with purse

I'm hoping some of you who have made purses can help me. I just finished a purse (sorry I can't post a picture - my camera is not working). It came out really cute, but when I put a wallet and other things in it, the edges gap. I took the border off and put in some really stiff stuff I had and sewed it back but it still sags. What am I doing wrong? Is there something else I should be using? Any help would be appreciated!

Are you talking about the top not staying closed? You could add a closure of some sort if that is the issue.

if you put a stiff bottom in it, the wallet may not cause the sides to gap

One reason why I like to either see and try a purse IRL before I buy or make it.

It's basically the design ... happens in regular store-bought purses too!!

Not knowing the what your purse is like, it could be the placement of the handles .... one handle looped over the top and stitched in at the ends/sides of the purse, perhaps? Whereas a double handle (one on each side) might create the balance better to avoid the gap.

Of course, the purse design may not allow for that. Just trying to give you some Food for Thought here!

Perrhaps if we knew what pattern you used, someone else has had experience with it!

The purse has a magnetic closure but I think you may be right about the handles causing the problem. There is one handle looped over the top and stitched at the ends. I think this is was is causing it to gap. I may take it apart and see if I can make another kind of handle. Thanks for the tip.
