This discussion has been so interesting. I am getting ready to machine quilt my first big project and I have taken notes of ways to make it more successful.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

Ladies I just did a search on this subject, cause I don't want to repeat a question that already has been discussed. I find lately I amhaving the same problems. I only use glue and lots of pins. My question was, can a walking foot go bad ? I don't remember having these problems before. I can't adjust the tension on my machine, so I was thinking maybe the plastic feet are wearing out. Any thoughts? I have a janome and have been using the foot that came with it

Does this happen on smaller projects - table runners, bags - or just big quilts?

Walking feet can go bad. Try replacing and see what happens.

I do not like 505 spray- it does not hold well for me at all. Had the same problem you did. Try the Sullivans spray (pink can) I do about 20 quilts a year and this is the only one that really works for me. It will hold the back and top in place and not gum up your machine. Make sure all is tight (not stretched) when you sandwich. Good luck - don't give up.
