It's beautiful! Very creative! Our fore-mothers did a lot of piecing, even in garment construction. Fabric was only 32 - 36 inches wide. I can remember my mom piecing fabric to make gored or flared skirts. She also used solids to "stretch" the fabric (as she would say). She'd make cuffs, collars, belts, trim from a solid fabric which added to the decor.

Beautiful quilt. I love the floral fabric. Do you remember what line it is? I would love to have a couple of yards.

OMG - it's gorgeous. Don't you just love purple - such a happy color. Maybe I should try something like this to back my DGD's quilt as I'm not sure I have enough backing fabric - will give it a try.
