 Don't know how I did it but I think I answered the question about the moving blanket on the wrong message. In any case, a moving blanket is a heavy rough blanket used by moving companies to cover furniture, etc to protect them during a move from one place to another. Nothing like fabric used for quilting.

I do shop at Joann's. But always in person. And have not had problems with the fabrics.

I love Joann store and also walmart to shop for fabrics! i like to go to the store and choose my fabrics by touching it, Joann has fabrics for all budgets and also lots of sales, i've been buying lots of their premium fabrics which is amazing they have designers fabrics also , keepsake calico has very good fabrics and also has very thin fabrics which I don't like, but most of this brand is good fabrics and not too expensive specially when they are on sale, at Walmart I like waverly inspirations and david textile. I only buy 100% cotton . there's lots of good fabrics out there, you don't need always buy designers stuff just buy the best you can afford also what works for you, some people don't like keepsake calico but others might love it one of the lovers is me kkkkkkkk

I have purchased many Keepsake Calicos from JoAnn's, and find the quality to be excellent. The comments having to do with bleeding -- any fabric (even Keepsake Calico) can bleed. I prewash everything that comes in my house -- if I'm going to sew with it, I won't risk it causing an asthma attack. Any fabric that comes from a different dye lot (just like knitting yarn) may be different from the same print fabric coming from a different dye lot. That's just a fact of life -- it doesn't mean the fabric is of poor quality -- it was dyed in another dye batch, and seldom do dye lots match perfectly! I seldom purchase fabric online!

I've purchased brand-name fabrics that bled more than a fabric I bought at Wal-Mart -- it's just something that happens!

I have bought fabric from JoAnn's as this is what I could afford and I could find some nice fabrics there and had no trouble with them. As life treats me better I do buy most of my fabrics from quilt shops and I always look for their clearance tables but I still go to JoAnn's when I get a chance and shop around. I understand that you would like to feel the fabrics as that is the way I buy fabrics. Good luck to you

I live too far from JoAnn's to buy much there but did buy some for a client's t-shirt quilt--it was a nice heavy weight and felt pretty good, but when I dye tested it (rubbed a white paper hard to see if any dye rubbed off) it came off slightly with the olive fabric and the red! With the red, I washed in hot water with 2 color catchers, and the color catchers hardly had any dye. But it still rubbed off, so I used ReTayne--twice! and a hot soak with Dawn (blue) overnight--each time there was no dye in the water or color catchers but it still rubbed off--although only a bit after all this. While the price was right, I won't be buying from their in future I don't think.

I have to travel some distance to buy from JAF and although I agree that you have to be careful of each fabric, I've never been really disappointined by any of their fabrics. I always wash, dry and starch before cutting.
I wouldn't buy their fat quarters. I find them very thin.
JoAnns also has a "Legacy" collection which is a step up from Keepsake which are very nice.
It would be nice to shop at LQS', but then I wouldn't be able to quilt very much with the prices.
I'm going to look into some of the web stores you girls have mentioned.

I agree on the Legacy fabric. It is VERY nice and priced at $9.99 a yard at full price. But who ever buys Joann's at full price? I picked it up when it was either 50 or 60% off, and it is lovely fabric. Actually, nicer than many designer name fabrics.

As for Keepsake, they have two grades of it. One retails for $7.99 a yard and the other for $9.99 a yard. The later is a nice quality, especially when bought on a good sale.
