I want to do a queen sized bed quilt using the alphabet and absolutely cannot figure out how to arrange 26 blocks and add borders that would look OK. Any suggestions for sources or ideas?.

    Thank you,
    Ruth

The only thing that I can figure would be to put 5 blocks in the first row, 4 in the next, 5, 4, etc for all 6 rows. But the last row would only have 3 blocks, and you'd need four, so you could put a signature block, with your name/date. AFter you know the sizes of your blocks, adjust the sashing to make the quilt the size you want. You'd have to decide if you want the blocks to cover the top only, with borders along the sides that hang off the bed, or if you want the blocks to cover the whole area. The benefit to having the blocks on the mattress area only, would be that it would be more visable to see all the work, and none of it would hang down where some blocks are not easily seen. Now, have I confused you even more? That's what happen when I'm looking at quilting boards at 3AM. (I'm working nights in the ER, and I've gotta stay awake somehow!). Sara

    26 + 4 = 30

the quilt is 6 rows of 5 blocks. put a special corner block at each end of the first and last rows.

Ruth, If you google 'alphabet quilt' there are a lot of different samples out there of what others have done. One lady added the numbers 1-4 to make 30 block. Easy-peasy! Another lady has pin-wheels between her letters so you don't notice the 'un-evenness' of the layout. Check it out. :D
