I get my binding ready with a very light pressing. I roll it on an empty toilet tissue roll and hang it on a hook. When ready to use I restring my roll and hang it around my neck, pull down as needed.

I would like to know what kind of bug gets in your fabric. I live in the south. I never had a bug get in my starched fabric. No one in my guild has ever had this problem either. We hear this all the time but never have met anyone that has actually had bugs get in the fabric.

Back when I lived in the south, many years ago, silverfish were a real problem. They got into almost everything that wasn't sealed up.
I wasn't a quilter then, so I'm not sure about starch and fabric with them.
