Default Question about cutting mats and Houston Show

I have a variety of cutting mats. One was gifted; two I bought on sale. My question is: Am I correct in assuming some mats dull the rotary blades prematurely, specifically, the Dritz?

I haven't heard any news on the Houston Show. Is it still a go?

I have not heard that different mats dull a blade faster or more than another self healing mat. I have had a number of different mats over the years and they all seam to wear about the same. Of course there is a great difference in how blades wear I know nothing about the Houston Show I am waiting to here.

I bought a Quilter's Select mat and it's great. It's about three years old and not one cut mark on it. The more pressure you use to cut the more wear the mat will receive and the duller the blade. A sharp blade and good mat will save you money and give you better cuts. I have heard conflicting info about Houston so I wouldn't be making travel plans just now.

I have not heard of mats dulling the rotary blades. Most all mats are self healing. I have had an Olfa mat for years with no problems with dull blades. I do agree that over time the mats just get worn out but it takes a lot of cutting on it

I went on the quilts.com website and they are currently still planning on holding the show. Here is a link to the announcement about it -https://www.quilts.com/statement-fro...ut-2020-shows/.

I just replaced my super old mat and ruler with Quilter's Select and I love them! Super thick really high quality mat, and the ruler has a coating to help with slippage. Didn't realize how worn out my old stuff was until I upgraded. I'm really bad about changing my cutter blades so now I'm changing them by the calendar.

I'm also a lover of Quilters Select mats. The best out there in my op! Mine is about 3 years old and looks new. Also- there rulers are fantastic.

I'm so sad. Going to Quilt Festival was one of the highlights of my fall. No Quilt Fest, no car shows, no dog show, no quilt guild. Life is really sad right now.
