I have several, but 2 sewing/embroidery Vikings. I can start an embroidery on one while I'm sewing/piecing on the other. I feel so productive!

I googled a picture of my Singer and then a picture of the Janome and the Viking. I sure see the difference in the amount of harp space!! Now....if someone were going to buy a second machine strictly for FMQ what you recommend?

I like to piece on my singer 201, makes nice straight stitch. I do fancy stitches on my singer 401, like around raw edge appliqué, then I quilt on Viking mega quilter. The Viking stays set up for fmq so I don't have to change it back and forth.

I like to piece on my Janome 1600 P-QC because it is a mechanical, straight stitch, sew like you know what machine. I can piece very fast on it. I used to work in a sewing factory and the sound of the speed gets me going. :)
I embroider and applique with my Janome 9500 because it has all the fancy stuff.
And I quilt on my Tin Lizzie longarm because I got tired of crawling around on the floor spray basting and my cats "helping."
When/ IF my 19 y/o daughter moves out her room is mine. I'm sure it will take less than a day to take it over. :)

May janome 1600 has 9 inches of harp and also won't sew if I forget to put the foot down (great feature) and it also has a cutter. If you can afford something with 9 inches and just want to FMQ, that is the best way to go. IMHO
