New cotton fabric lines
I have noticed that several new lines are calling themselves Batik cottons. I believe that the cost of real batiks has gotten so high that the manufacturers are trying to see if they can mimic the batik looks. I think this is what we are seeing. I'm personally open to the new ideas. We'll see....just my opinion.

From your description, if you are a purest, it does NOT seem to be a batik. I have bought directly from Hoffman for many years. They probably used the name of this line of fabric because the design gave it a tropical feel. You should send them an email with your disappointment with the confusion of the name. They do care about what quilter's think about their fabrics being a family run business. Real batiks do not have printed selvage. There have been other companies that have done this such as Benatex. I keep my FAKE cotton batiks in with my cottons. The fabric still looks like a very pretty prints.
