Default Question about mailing quilts ?

I am donating several quilts to a friends Church which is about 3,000 miles from where I live. What carrier should I use? USPO, UPS or Fed Ex. What has been your experience? TY in advance!!!

When I mailed 128 quilts to soldiers in Afghanistan 4 years ago, they went to an APO address 8 at a time thru the US Post Office and arrived just fine, every one over a period of months.

I always use the post office priority mail. It includes tracking and $50 insurance, and you can add more if you want. In January I sent 3 quilts from Indiana to Colorado and they arrived in 3 days. You can also request a signature if you don't want to risk the package being left at the front door with no one home. All very reasonably priced.

I used to use UPS but they don't require signatures any more. Just drop the package at the door and leave. Now I use the post office. They will insure, track and require signature if requested

Just be sure that you understand the insurance claim info. The nice clerk at the PO may take the money to insure your package for $$$$, but if the parcel is lost, you can only claim what you have receipts for. So for instance, fabric is covered, as is long arm quilting if you used a service and got a receipt. Your time is not covered.

Thanks everybody for your replies! Quilts are happily on their way. I went with USPO. I got the insurance just in case. Went with GROUND as PRIORITY jumped up to $50.00 because of the box size.. Yikes! Hope the PRAYER LADIES at the Church like their new quilts to keep them warm in the Prayer Room.........

Here's a hint for next time. If you can do it, use flat rate priority and put the quilts in a space bag before boxing them. The quilts will still have the weight but take up far less space so you can put them in a smaller box.
