    Default Question about Muslin fabric

Getting ready to cut blocks for that quilt I'm starting. I have unbleached muslin...what do you guys prefer? Bleached or unbleached. The pattern has a lot of black/white pattern and red, so trying to figure out if I need Bleached muslin. Any input appreciated

    Thanks
    Jo

I use unbleached, however if you would white in your quilt then I would use bleached.

Totally agree. I buy my unbleached by the bolt when it's on sale.

Both are fine to use, depends on the look you want. If I were working with black & whites I would probably use bleached ( white) muslin, but your pattern may be fine with unbleached-- it just depends. Lay your fabrics out together & see if you like them together or not. The nice thing is muslin is inexpensive and if you decide to switch to bleached the natural you have will come in handy in another project.

If you don't have ecru in your quilt, I would used the bleached.

If you have white use bleached. If you have cream use unbleached

I'd also use bleached with prints that have white in them. Unbleached looks more "country" or old-fashioned, whereas Bleached looks more "contemporary". Have you noticed old linens that have been stored without being washed regularly have a brownish / unbleached cast to all their colors? A lot of that will rinse out, but not all.

Use bleached muslin of a good quality. Some muslin is very thin. The best quality muslin I have found lately is from Walmart.

If you want white, then you have to use bleached muslin. Unbleached stays the color of beige.
