I also would stick with gray, it looks good.

I quite like the grey thread on the coral fabric, but if you want to try the coral thread for a while then do so. I switch threads frequently on my longarm. It doesn't look strange to have different thread colors on a quilt.

I would stick to the grey but it's your quilt and your call.

Very nice work so far, love that coral.
I was going to say stay with the grey as it looks well, blends OK with the Coral. But Mama hit on a good point. Practice changing thread color!!

And yes, people change thread color quite a bit depending on the quilt. More often than not (especially on a long arm) they will do all one color, then all the next color. Not always possible to do it that way on a domestic where it's more important to quilt specific areas first to hold the shape of the quilt - regardless of the thread color.

Do you have some scrap fabric that you could practice on as with coral thread? I'd stitch up a small coral and grey 4 patch and see what it's like with coral on the grey as well as how much of a pain it could be ( or if you like the results well enough to bear with changes). Even though it's a practice quilt, you've still done enough work that you might not care to undo if you don't like your practice sandwich results..

By "small" I mean fat quarter size . You can keep it to practice other skills on.

I'd just go with the gray. After its washed and crinkles up you probably won't notice it.

Anyway, I've finished this little quilt top and have only quilted one pass so far. I am really not sure about my gray thread. I kind of want to switch to coral in this section and switch back to gray where the coral fabric isn't. Probably as clear as mud...
So, what do you think? Should I just stick with all gray or quilt the gray and go back and quilt with coral thread? Is that a weird idea? Does anyone ever do that?
I should add that this is a practice quilt for me and that it was not made with anyone in mind. Certainly not a baby quilt for a grandchild in the future...
    Thanks for your thoughts,

I just finished quilting a baby quilt and I am sorry that I did not change colors. I quilted the whole quilt with white thread and think blue on the blue fabric would have been much better. Quilting is whatever you want it to be. If you want to change color, change color. It is your painting. Here is my quilt.

I would use the coral thread all over or a blue or green color thread. What I call happy color quilting thread really makes a difference.
