Default Question about using border print

I'm making a quilt that is shown with a striped border cut across the width, that is, the side borders have short horizontal stripes and the top and bottom borders have short vertical stripes. It happens that the fabric line I decided to use for this quilt included a fancy border print, which I bought. I haven't used a border print before, but it is obviously designed to be cut along the length of the fabric. I really liked the lively look of the horizontal stripes on the pattern, and I was wondering if anyone has ever used one of these border prints cut horizontally, and if you liked the result. I don't have any extra fabric to experiment with. Thanks!

While I haven't used a border print like you are asking, if you lay it out on your cutting area with the centre portion laying as if you had cut and stitched it already, you may be able to "audition" the look before committing?
I have used this technique to decide if I liked how something looked.

Cutting it lengthwise will work well. You will probably want to use mitered corners or if you don't have enough fabric then maybe a same width block in the corners.

I have cut a border print cross way instead of length wise -- it had a short repeat and was not directional. I cut it so each piece had the same pattern so that when I pieced it together it was hard to see the seams because it looked like one long piece of striped fabric.

I think it would really depend on the pattern in your border print. Can you show a picture? I'm having trouble envisiioning a border print that could be placed in the direction it wasn't meant to be placed without looking like a mistake.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone! Here are two pictures of the border print hanging off the cutting table.

I like the top one (the stripy look). It looks good with this print and short repeat.

I LOVE the look of it as a horizontal stripe. Had a friend do that and it was so striking. Up to you, but you have two wonderful options here.

Thanks for your input! I seem to be favoring the horizontal also, but I would have been very hesitant to do it without some affirmation.
